It's "Earth Hour" here in Toronto. Is your city takin' part in this? If not, it's a deal where everybody turns off their lights for 60 mins.
Currently, I am sitting in darkness (except for my laptop screen), watching Nelly Furtado perform in honour of this thing, a half-mile away.

Apparently this is an Australian idea? If so, I say, "Kudos!".

I have never heard of this until now! But my family doesn't normally have alot of lights on anyway. So I guess every hour is earth hour here. Proud Memaw to Seyhan Olivia Christine ,Zoey Cirilo Jaylee & Ellie Abigail Lillian

As long as she wasn't plugged in, that's allowed!

I don't think that Baton Rouge is doing this because all the lights are still on.

I did it here - turned everything off, lights, tv, computer, etc. All the homes behind me did it as well. My neighbours on both sides of me had every light on as usual. Morons.
I love the smell of candles.

I'm a bit disappointed. I was downtown during the hour, and while the city was somewhat darker, it was nowhere near the black I'd idealized. It was wild seing the CN tower completely black, though -- it became a towering silhouette of itself!
All in all, this was a fun, but too brief attention grabber. I hope it serves as gateway to more substantive measures at conservation and sustainability. [Edited 3/29/08 21:26pm] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

During Earth Hour, I was heating a frozen pizza in my oven while talking on the phone and watching "Car Wash" on DVD.
Hey, I live alone and am really good about conserving energy. 8 p.m. turned out to be real inconvenient today.

It's so dark! Can I turn my light on yet?

As long as she wasn't plugged in, that's allowed! He lives in New York, and that wasn't a cat, it was a rat!

I lit a lot of candles, and almost went to go see Nelly Furtado, but felt lazy and was enjoying the peacefulness.
