Table for 1 Please...

I haven't been cooking my own food much since I got back from vacation simply becuase I'm tired and am not ready to get back in the swing of things JUST yet, so I've been going out and eating alot this week.

Tonight I went to TGI Fridays and had a soup and salad combo. It just struck me. I'm eating dinner alone, and the waitress is extra nice to me.... Like "feel sorry for the single loser" nice lol

It felt really odd. I felt like picking up my cellphone and dialing someone just to make it look like I wasn't this sorry loser or something falloff which NEVER EVER crosses my mind. I normally view being single is this liberating thing that allows me to do everything and anything I want to whenever I want to. But I just realized tonight that while this is still true, I'm doing anything and everything I want to do .... alone. hmmm

I started feeling... I don't know... inadequate. Strange. Sort of like a misfit.

Is this is a normal feeling when dining alone? I don't get that when I watch movies by myself. shrug

Any of you dine alone regularly? Do you ever feel weird? Has growing older changed this attitude any?

I can understand exactly what you're going through. But I could never go in a restaurant to eat alone. And since I can't cook, all I eat is junk food, or nothing.

I used to dress like mad, and go to restaurants to eat alone when i was younger. Now i feel like an idiot if i eat alone in restaurants, could be an age thing, i am not sure.

I don't usually go out to eat because I like to cook for myself, but when I was away at school and without a kitchen, I had no choice. I don't really like eating by myself, but if I'm hungry, I'm going to go eat. The only time that I feel weird is if the place that I am at is really crowded and I'm just there sitting by myself. sad

I felt like that the one time I went to a seated concert alone. Like everyone was staring at me because I didn't have a date. General admission shows where everyone is standing I do all the time with no problems, but when I go to a show with assigned seating, I always have to drag a friend with me.

I've never done the restaurant thing alone (except for fast food and then I'll bring a newspaper or something else to read) and I could never go to the movies alone also.

i feel sorry for you for eating at a TGIFridays! disbelief

i'll eat anywhere by myself, i don't care. i just bring a book or a notebook and enjoy my own company. but i'm only child styley that way. shrug

i wouldn't eat somewhere that was like "family dining experience"-ish by myself. that would be depressing. plus the food usually sucks and is overpriced, and there's the whole screaming children factor to deal with.

I don't think I've ever gone out to dinner alone. Breakfast and lunch regularly, though. If I don't feel like cooking dinner I get take out and eat it at home. After living alone for years I'm quite used to doing just about everything alone. But I still don't think I could do dinner.

I like dining alone because you can take as much time as you like to order without the impatience of others. Plus you can also flirt with fit waitresses without a slap from your missus.

I dont understand why most people have problems with going out alone etc. Is it like you really dont enjoy or cause of what others think?
