What is rota?

a rota is a list detailing one's schedule, each section represents an hour of the day
and u fill in the windows with appointments and events.

for instance 5pm - 5.30pm, hubby comes home and showers
6pm-7pm fuck hubbies brains out
7pm-8pm another shower then dinner

got it?

I haven't read the whole thread, but:

If you have to have carbs, have potatoes - better than processed bread/pasta/rice etc. Just dont add butter!

Although, if you like mashed potatoes ( drooling ) Have mashed swede instead. is really nice!

If you really want pasta, make a chunky sauce to go with it, and use much less pasta than "normal". Use, say, tinned tomatoes, green pepper, onion, mushrooms, anything - as long as theres more pasta than sauce!

Best cheap low fat meal I know is prawn stir fry. Get one of those ready made stir fry bags from the supermarket (very common and under £1), prawns, 1 garlic clove and a chilli pepper. Frozen prawns are cheapest, get a bag, and defrost as many as you need by pouring on boiling water! thumbs up! Chop garlic and chilli pepper and fry the lot in a little oil. Voila! I eat that lots giggle

I have found Dairylea light slices to be a worthy substitute for cheese - and I LOVE cheese.

Buy small loaves of bread, and still only have one sandwich. Its all an illusion you see!

Drink water with a slice of lemon and ice, its good for you and the colder the water, the more it fills you up, somehow.

Baked beans (the low sugar/fat kind) on wholemeal toast are low fat, filling too.

Those Nestle Fitnesse bars I told you about.

Someone else said fish, thats good too, although not always cheap. Look at the reduced stuff in the supermarket, theres nothing wrong with it! lol

hmmm Thats all for now.... hug

As for cheap food: anything with lentils. I make lentil burgers, fritters, soup. . .they're very good, protein-dense food.

i dont believe wheat in moderation is fine, there is strong research proving otherwise
i dont believe in veganism either, the key is ballance
but you must ballance foods that humans are supposed to eat
not what giant multinationals and superstores market us

..

The argument is generally that wheat is an "unnatural" food for humans. What I'm not sure people fully realize is that living past the age of 50 isn't particularly "natural" for us either. We've extended our lifespans considerably by changing the way we live in all kinds of ways, including vastly better nutrition than was available to our ancestors.

Does that mean that everybody should eat lots of wheat? Nah, it just means that the "unnatural" argument against ANYthing isn't very persuasive.

But maybe the links that we will be provided with will give us more than that. smile

  • soup and a sandwich is pretty fast... you can grill the sandwich to make it a bit different smile

  • i like to add sunflower or pumpkin seeds to my salad and sprinkle a few dried cranberries to give it a little zing.

  • you could get one of those whole cooked bbq chickens and have it for supper one night, add some chicken to a salad for the next day and boil the rest and add veggies for homemade soup for yet another meal. smile

  • i have to make up a bunch of individual servings of veggies to make it handier to snack on... that way it's just as easy to grab a container of celery and carrots as it is to grab something junky.

  • for a mid afternoon office snack mix up a small container of nuts and dried fruit. i am so bad at portion control on this one though. a handful is never enough... i just want more!

  • if it's late night snacking that gets you try to have a bowl of cereal instead.

Ottensen

-red pepper strips, alone or with cottage cheese w lemon pepper seasoning

-celery sticks w/ almond or peanut butter

-megabowls of fresh chopped veggies tossed in a splash of vinaigrette, usually massive amounts of chopped tomato& cucumber, maybe with celery, parsley

-whole wheat tortilla with slice of chick/turkey breast, lettuce or spinach leaf,
red or yellow bell pepper strips (fresh or roasted), & a little crumbled feta or slice of goat cheese or gouda cheese

for sweets i stick with pure, unadultered fruit, like a bowl of sliced mango, pears, or pint of blueberries or strawberries. also, where i live, whole wheat cookies are popular, some made with müsli, and usually sweetened with fruit juice or applesauce. they're tasty and not too high in fat or refined food content!

for heavier meals:

handful cooked asian noodles in chicken broth w ginger, sesame oil/ seeds,
sliced mushroom, broccoli, green onion chili flakes, sliced chicken or beef

pan seared chicken breast w a gingantic side of broccoli drizzled w/ olive oil, lemon juice, almonds and a pinch of salt&pepper

pan seared fish filet (i often use frozen), served over humongous bed of sliced onion, green or yellow squash, chopped celery thats been sauteed in garlic, olive oil, 1/2 cup chicken broth,& splash of white wine, sprinkle dish profusely w/ fresh parsley

whole wheat crepes (easily made by leaving out the baking powder in your standard pancake recipe wink), stuffed w chopped mushrooms & spinach & basil thats sauteed in olive oil, garlic & chick broth, enjoy w parmesean or shredded lo fat mozzerella.

i'm really an old fashioned cook and always try to make things from scratch, using fresh foods whenever possible. but i also say when under time or money constraints by all means pull out the frozen veggies and dried herbs as substitutes cool. i also cut time and hassle of flavoring foods by cooking w chicken, beef, or veggie broth. investing heavily in pre-mixed season blends,an assortment of vinegars, & flavored oils from my my local exotic-ethnic store or food isle- like going to my local asian market and picking up 1.69 bottles of chili or ginger oil to make dishes that would normally seem difficult or time consuming becasue of all the damn chopping involved smile
