Did You Ever Quit Your Job Before Getting Another One?

I've done it several times myself, and am interested in hearing the stories of others who have done it as well. What lead up to it? Did you regret doing it after all was said and done?
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Oh yes. Almost every time when I was younger. With no savings, either. It was a mistake every time, but I was just too fed up by the time it happened.

I don't think I would do it now, though. At least I'd like to think I wouldn't. I'd be in financial trouble real quick.

Marketing & Development for a non-profit day care for people with Alzheimer's disease.

I don't make a lot, but I have too many commitments to quit without having something else lined up.

A noble cause. You must feel good about going to work every day.

That's cool. Mortgage. My girlfriend makes more than me, but we're both putting most of it into the place. The first year is a big adjustment. Also we're working on getting out of credit card debt. No kids, fortunately. Nothing wrong with them, we just don't want them.

I like my job okay, but I think I'm a bit uninspired & unchallenged right now. I love having a job with purpose, but like anything it can get old. I don't feel like I'm moving forward.

Fair enough. It sounds like you've decided on a long-term plan for your future and that you're comfortable with it. Even though it's a struggle at present, it must feel like a big relief to know where you're aiming.

I know what you mean. It sounds like marketing for a non-profit organization would provide endless new challenges though? I would have thought you'd get overwhelmed before you got bored. Like I said though, I know how it can be when it all becomes a routine and you've done it all a thousand times already. It's really no fun, and to be honest - when that happens I usually start looking for something else instead of try to ask the boss to give me new tasks.

I'm not the head of marketing here, and we're a small admin staff, so some of my day inevitably involves grunt work. I do write grants, though, and that can be fun. I think I might like to try writing grants for another company.

I do believe in the cause, and that's how I become involved at my job again, by spending time with the participants in the program. nod

What do you do?

I really wish I had a job, but since I came back from Japan (where I worked as a Junior High School teacher) I haven't been able to find anything. It sucks monkey balls.

don't fret, I'm sure something will come along. It always does. But job hunting is no fun. I dread interviews.

Yes. I quit a job in 2003 before I attained new employment and it was one of the worst periods of my life. I ended up finding a new job a couple months later but it had no benefits and it was only part time. It took through 2004 to get myself back to where I was. I will never do something so arrogant again.

I used to do marketing, development and pr for a non-profit mental health organization. My position ended up getting eliminated eventually, but I did love it while it lasted.

I've had a job of some kind since grade school.(yard work for grandma who was a task master) When I've quit I always give the required notice. Work in a profession where there's always a shortage so don't have any problem with employment. Quit one job to move out of state. Had $$ saved so I could take time off. Got another job immediately when the time came. Current employer I've been with for 25 years.

I'm a biker bar stripper.
Though according to my tax records, technically, I'm an "entertainer". rolleyes

It's not exactly what you would call an glamorous career,
but it supports my lifestyle.

Which is basically just going from one coke-fix to another.

So, I guess that you could say what I really am
is a free spirit.
