For years Mrs. Adisa and I have been trying to have a baby. For a few years we couldn’t conceive and were obviously concerned as to why. Eventually though, we went on to have 3 consecutive miscarriages, all in about an 18 month period. The second miscarriage was particularly hard on us, and our marriage. We tried to tell ourselves that since miscarriages are a “part of life” that we really shouldn’t be upset about it. So we found other reasons to distance ourselves from ourselves.

Denial is not just a river in Egypt, as they say.

The third miscarriage went under the radar to our friends and family. In fact, other than our medical team, only about 7 people TOTAL even know we had a third miscarriage, one being a Holy Ghost-filled orger who has been an intercessory prayer warrior though it all. (Thanks ThreadBare. Luv U, bruh. )

Still, the agony and confusion of another miscarriage in the midst of stressors brought on by jobs, classes, internships, obligations at church, and other various responsibilities put us in front of the firing squad whose weapons are divorce or annulment. Me? I shut down completely! For 8 months I literally haven’t done jack for my schoolwork (“I” incompletes like a m’ug) or church, and I’ve been doing just enough at my job to keep from losing it. “What does it really matter, anyway”, I’ve been saying. But through faith, prayer, counseling, the work and reassurance of our doctors and fertility specialists, and hard work on our part, Mrs. Adisa and I are gettting over these obstacles.

We learned almost 2 months ago that she’s pregnant again. The first ultrasound showed a hemorrhage that was larger than the embryo. Mrs. Adisa also got very ill and a gnarly infection of some sort. It appears that of this is behind us now…we hope.

So here we are at about 3-4 months. All appears to be going well. Our little is growing and heartbeat strong and steady. Still, given our past (and her mother’s, since she also miscarried more the once in the last trimester) it’s “hard” to know what to do and how to feel. I’m picking up all the pieces from the past 8 months and starting to get a handle on my life again. There’s no real satisfaction, I’m just trying to finish stuff that was started before the meltdown because, well, that’s what we’re supposed to do, right? Or am I really just providing a buffer in case the worst occurs again? It broke my heart each time to watch Mrs. Adisa go through so much physical, mental, and emotional suffering, while I could do nothing at all, but maybe talk to her “when I get back from working on such-and-such”.

Anyway, just say a little prayer for us. Essentially I know that we’re OK and that we’re gonna be OK. All the world there are pregnant women with HIV/AIDS, or no jobs, health insurance, or another person to help them when they are sick, not enough food to feed the kids they have already, working 2 jobs, homeless, or incarcerated.
Pray for them 10x as much as you pray for us. Thanks.

Wow, thank you for sharing such a personal story with all of us. I can't imagine how hard this journey has been for the both of you. It certainly brought tears to my eyes!
