Ohio State vs. Michigan!

If you're not a sports enthusiast...you need not read any further... lol

Today is the day of "THE GAME". Not really interested in either team, but I live in Ohio at the moment, so I root for the homies....

So to all of you who enjoy REALLY great college football...enjoy the game with me.....

Go Buckeyes!

They're color scheme is just tacky. I don't like their uniforms.

Plus, I have to work in Ohio all the time, and I resent it during the winter months. sigh

I don't particulary care for winter, but if I could move back to Minnesota...I would move in asecond (hopefully in 2008)

Dude, I went there last February to Columbus Ohio, and nearly froze my ass off. I had to buy a jacket up there at the Polaris Mall. I mean, I can't recall the last time I needed a jacket. shrug

I love the turf in Ohio though. The grass is to die for drool

And the folks where really nice. I mean so nice it was scary. Are Ohioans just polite people or something? Or are they being fake? confuse

sigh The whole world really does need to live in the south. You'd be stupid not too. Why would you live in cold weather 2/3rds of the year if you didn't have to?
Cold is dumb.

I actually got used to the cold when I lived in Germany. I was most comfortable between 50 and 60 degrees.

But the issue with the cold for me is that it limits your activities (unless you're into snow skiing). I dread the cool months here in Tampa because I can't go swimming, etc. shrug

But Ohioans are really nice people.

O Gawd, my fave month is August when it gets in the high 90's to 100. The hotter the better for me. It's fun to go snow tubin' n stuff, but I'd rather do stuff that doesn't require you to dress in layers, and hats make my hair frizzy.

woot! YES!!!

pray RIP Bo Schembechler cry He's a legend around here...my department at work had him speak at a men's heart health event we hosted earlier this year. We wanted him to be our system spokesperson, but he just wasn't well enough. In Michigan, he wasn't just a college football coach...he was, and will always be, loved and respected.

Let's do it for Bo...GO BLUE!

U-M campus in state of mourning

On a cool fall day when the University of Michigan normally would have been bustling with the excitement that comes with playing the biggest football game of the year, the campus in Ann Arbor took on a more somber spirit as students learned of the death of their beloved former football coach, Bo Schembechler.

"This is sad," said Vaughn Calandra, an 18-year-old freshman from Newberry, Calif., who learned of the legendary coach's death while eating breakfast in a campus dining hall. Still, the game was on his mind.

"Bo was Michigan football, and I'm sure the team will be motivated to win for him," Calandra said.

At least 400 people gathered at 10 p.m. for a vigil on the campus, walking up the Diag with candles in hand. They gathered near a banner with one of Schembechler's most famous quotes -- "Those who stay will be champions."

Some students held hands. Former players spoke. And remarks from Mary Sue Coleman, Gerald Ford and Lloyd Carr were read to the crowd.

Brad Switzer and Jessica Good, who own a business together in Ann Arbor, were among the throngs.

"I've lived here my whole life. I've always been a Michigan fan, and I had to come out here for Bo," said Switzer, 38.

"He was with the team all the way to the end," said Good, 35, referring to a pep talk the coach gave players Thursday.

A bouquet of flowers and a mini football that read "Bless You Bo!" rested in front of the Schembechler Hall sign.

Melissa Dobbyn, 20, a junior from Livonia and a forward on U-M women's soccer team, recalled the day her team met Schembechler during an athletes' orientation in 2004.

"It was a motivating speech to get us excited about Michigan and just being here," Dobbyn said.

Though sadness swept through Ann Arbor, there were still remnants of a festive campus awaiting the rivalry of Ohio State. On the Diag, blue and gold towels and other U-M paraphernalia were being sold to passersby.

Josh Delcastillo, a 22-year-old computer engineering major from Grand Rapids, said he was excited to be attending the game to cheer the Wolverines today, but said he was shocked when he learned of the former coach's death.

"I have been a Michigan fan all of my life and though I was not around when Bo was a coach, I think the students connected with him because he was always on campus and so cheerful," he said, as he picked up a bag and jumped into a car with friends on their way to tailgate in Columbus, Ohio.

Some students said parties and celebrations held the eve before the game, and downtown bars, wouldn't be as packed as usual.

"All week, you could just feel the excitement because of the game and today it's like we were punched in the gut," said Christopher Holinski, a senior political science major.

Holinski and his friend made a big sign that draped the porch of a house they rent across from the athletic campus that said "Let's Do It 4 Bo." He said he would hang out tonight at a few parties, but he believes the mood would be different.

"Putting up a sign was the least we could do," he said. "I still think we will win (today), but the loss will be heavy on the team's heart."
