I'm Having Surgery for Kidney Stones!

The anxiety I am feeling right now is a bit overwhelming, but tomorrow I go in for laser surgery to remove two kidney stones. UGH! Has anyone else had this procedure?

The process begins by them giving me general anesthesia. I was told not to plan on doing much of anything for at least 24 hours. Then they insert a probe into the urethra, up the ureter, and to the base of the kindeys. There, a camera is also inserted up the urethra so they can see where the stones are while they either catch them in some kind of basket or zap them with lasers. I've only watched "ER" a couple of times, but have yet to see George Clooney doing this operation.... I am nervous as all hell!

To top it off, as if this wasn't humiliating enough, they leave a tube "stent" in your ureter for 5-7 days so as that it can properly heal and pass any stone fragments that were left. Can you tell I am ready to jump out of my skin by now?!?!? What the hell have I gotten myself into?

Well, after seeing other people post about their recent surgeries, I had to tell you of mine. I figured someone in the Org might know something more about this.... HELP!

I also have tickets to see Madonna Saturday night in Arizona, so this better be a quick healing process!

Hey !

Sounds bad...

Wishing you all the best and a quick recovery, get well real soon.

And try to drink more water in the future, and be a bit careful with excessive protein intake. Make sure you drink LOTS of water and eat plenty of enzymes ( pineapples, kiwis, papaya, mango)...that stuff helps your metabolism to digest protein much better and it helps in transforming protein into muscles.
Too much meat or any kind of excessive animal protein is bad for you if you have problems with your kidneys.Be also careful with salt.
" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Ouch! comfort My dad has suffered with kidney stones for 30+ years. He had the zap with laser procedure a few years ago. All went well and, from what I remember, a quick recovery. They weren't able to eliminate his stones- just broke bigger stones into smaller ones, so he still has frequent attacks (about one a year or so). Drew has also had about 4 kidney stone attacks- one (with me, the others before us) about 9 years ago and had the basket procedure, also quick recovery. From what I've witnessed, they are extremely painful so I hope your procedure will stop any future troubles for you. I know you're nervous but I also know you'll be fine.

heart you ...and save a percocet for the concert! nuts giggle
