lol That's it exactly. Subway music sage. hehe.

"Whilst I appreciate that you may be wide awake and full of enthusiasm at this early hour, presumbly due to your youth - made obvious by your attempted beard and the fact that one leg of your jeans contains more material than I'm wearing on my entire body - I am sleepy and grumpy and would rather be in bed. I also appreciate that, given your youth, the pinnacle of your musical appreciation thus far is the discovery of Snow Patrol. However, at this hour of the morning I do not wish to be subjected to the gnashings and wailings of another average two-chord band. I'm trying to snooze to Sigur Rós damn it! So turn that noise down or I'm gettin my scissors out. Snip, snip."

One of these mornings, when I'm particularly tired and grumpy, I can see myself saying something like that. So far I've managed to restrain myself to 'Could you turn it down please', but the day is coming...

lol
You know, this probably won't surprise you, but this is not the first time I've been compared to that character. Interestingly, I've also occasionally been compared to The Dude in The Big Lebowski. hmm Figure that one out.
Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

I've never had a problem with headphone leakage, it's people car stereos that make me insane. Especially since I know half of the noise is just to get attention.

You got my attention, now I hate you.

Car stereos drive me insane! Although I'm not about to start leaning out my window: "Excuse me, sir? Did you know that my car is shaking due to the volume of your horrible - I mean, your music?" That'd be slightly refreshing though, sometimes. lol I have this thing - when I'm in my own car, I expect to hear my own music (or nothing if I'm playing none), my own noise, etc.

HE'S COMING AGAIN

In Jr. High once we had a substitute teacher who let us study quietly, as they are wont to do.

My friend thought he'd just listen to his headphones and nobody would hear. But Judas Priest played at 10 on your Walkman is going to leak, as we've established. The whole class was cracking up at him grooving, completely oblivious to the fact that the whole classroom was filled with guitar solo after screaming vocal after guitar solo.

The teacher took his Walkman away from him, much to his surprise.

Nobody thinks their own music is noise, they think everyone is thinking how cool they are and how great their music is--me included.

But I think the kind of bass we have here in Oakland is a form of assault, as well as an invasion of privacy. Eventually the whole city will be nothing but a dull thumping.

...would you want someone to tell you, or do you care?

and if you don't care, why bother with headphones/earbuds/whatever in the first place? why not just carry around a boombox?

support your answers. use complete sentences.

I can think of other leaks i'd rather people told me about.

When teenagers listen to shit heavy metal on their headphones so that the whole morning train will shake, I'm often the one who gets up tells'em to turn them down or "preferably off altogether". They're fucking idiots, can't stand them. I might even tell them to listen to "proper Black Metal instead of shit Black Metal". I'm enough big, old and look relatively like a metalhead myself with long hair and the constant combat boots - so they never give any shit back. Sometimes I get people to thank me afterwards or give me approving smiles.

And unfortunately the other group that can't keep the volume on reasonable levels are the foreigners in this city. Them I usually leave alone, I don't want to start an all-out racial war because of their crappy taste in music.

In noisy public places like public transportation, I don't care, either about my "leakage" ( omg ) or others'.

However, in quiet settings, I do care. I can't wear earbuds (they don't fit, and I have a tragus piercing), but I have those big headphones with the padded thing going all the way around the ear, and I don't think they leak. If they do, I'd want somebody to tell me. nod
oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!

well, like, what if someone you kinda KNEW, like a co-worker, had leaky headphones and you just said "i don't know if you know this or not, but we can hear your headphones clear as day."

i mean, i operate under the assumption that i have semi-snappy earbuds that were designed not to leak sound, so when i feel like cranking it up, i know i'm not bothering anyone. i don't like imposing my music on other people, because i don't like having other people's music imposed on me (mainly because i am a music snob, but partially this is an etiquette thing). i'd want to know if i was rocking the house with my earphones.

only child eh? smile

i know those moments to!

diva, where are u??! join us! lol

I'd much rather have someone notice that my earbuds are expensive and uber swanky.
