Ipod Fiasco

In the past year I've jumped the Ipod train. I uploaded some 8,500 songs onto it and I think it's great to have all of that music at my fingertips. So, today I get in my car and go to put on my Ipod. As I look for music, it is all gone.

ALL OF IT!

Wiped out! I frantically searched for the "About" screen, it says that I have 0 songs, but the same amount of memory is still accounted for.

This has happened before in Australia. The songs are still on the Ipod, but I can't access them at all unless it is plugged into a computer. mad I've gotten around it by plugging in my Ipod, changing the preferences to show the hidden files, and uploading all of those files back onto the computer, then putting them all back on my Ipod after I reconfigure it completely. All in all, it takes about 8 hours. Moreover, I had made about 40 year-specific or decade-specific playlists of hundreds of songs each. Reworking it all will be a bitch! mad

So, here is my desperate and pathetic plea for help.

Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone know another way around this? It's incredibly annoying and has happened some 5 times now...

that's awful, over 8,000 songs. I'd be pissed. Some iPods just up and quit all together though.
The main reason Santa is so jolly is because he knows where all the bad girls live. smile

Static electricity can erase memory. So can't emp. Grounding yourself before touching the ipod and keeping it in a place were it can't be effected by electro megnetic pulses will help to.

Bad News: Prince wasted too much quality time doing so.

Is there a way to recover the songs without jumping through the 8-hour hoop?

Just the fact that you can recover is enough. I would assume not. you should count yourself lucky if you can recover in hours instead of how long it took you from the start or at all.

Not when this has happened at least 5 times... something is wrong.

I can't think of what would cause it, though, because there has been nothing that should interfere with my Ipod each time it has happened. confuse

One of the reasons I rufuse to stop buying CD's instad of going the digital route. Itunes is not for me because

it is proprietary to a computer,

the restricions they have for mp3's purchased from their store,

no recording function,

and that they make old versions obsolete when a new one comes out even if that new one comes out a few months of the previous release.

I still buy CDs as well, so it's not like I've lost the ability to listen to the music. I just can't listen to it on my Ipod. mad

iPod or iTunes? Whenever Apple comes with a new version of iTunes you can easily updates without losing your library, mp3 is mp3.....these updates are compatible with all iPods, all generations!

I buy the cd's then rip them. I file them away on my computer and put them on my MP3 player. I store the ripped files to dvdrs.

Nobody at either Best Buy (where I purchased it) or Apple Support (where I have called) knows an easy way around it. Apparently Ipod Photo models are more problematic.

It appears that this time I'm not so lucky, either. None of the songs show up in the hidden folders, either. mad

I just went to Best Buy. Fuckers wouldn't even replace it though I have a Service Plan and explained that this had happened 5 times. So now I have to go 14 days without it as it gets "repaired". Bet you a new Ipod it does this again.

Thanks for the laugh, Jess. I'll never forget you tripping up the stairs. falloff

Okay, as someone who has spent too much time in Valparaiso (but did not attend the University), I must know... what is a "VISA party"? confuse
