French Or Saunders The past few weeks, I've had to spend a lot of time at home and so I decided to purchase and watch a bunch of DVD series, including the "French and Saunders" collection (I ended up buying all six of their DVDs but bought them so that they would be as cheap as possible). Anyway, I thought I was going to get all the episodes of the series, not long specials. It's not the funniest thing the BBC has producded, but it's good. I was wondering what fans of British comedy thought. Which do you think is funnier, French or Saunders? I'd have to go with French in the series, but Saunders for her "defining" solo series ("Ab Fab"). I love "Vicar Of Dibley" but it's run is not as consistenly funny as "Ab Fab's" first three seasons and specials (actually, I've only seen the first). So does everyone else think.

Personally, I blame Dawn French for stripping away Lenny Henrys' caustic self deprecating wit and replacing it with a framework of pseudo-intellectual "right-on ness". Much in the same way that Yoko did to John Lennon.
Some of us still remember the good old days of Tiswas. Damn, I was hoping to post some Tiswas photos, specifically Lenny Henry, but buggered if I can find any on the internet! Help, anyone?

I'm not that into British culture...I have no idea who her husband is (I assume that's Lenny is her husband).

It was not that bad. Infact, i liked it as a kid. Havn't seen it for many years now. I cannot stand vicar of dibley. Ab fab is ok I guess. Important for a no. of good reasons, but still, i find the characters kinda annoying

I can understand not liking "Vicar". It's controverisal for a show about a Vicar but it's pretty safe. The one epsidoe I saw before buying the entire season was probably one of the funniest. The show has it's moments but it's probably more sweet and nice than laugh out loud funny. [Edited 8/23/05 12:04pm]

Vicar of Dibley is hilarious to me. I love everything that is French and Saunders. I love AB Fab also.

Sorry if I sound daft. M I always thought of French and Saunders as the poor cousins of the Comic Strip.

He does comic releif every 2 years. He's the main MC for the night. Its a charity telethon of sorts but no where near as cheesy as the america ones "true identity" is a movie I must watch again soon. If seen cheap, give it a go. Shame it bombed.

To be honest, I'm not that into either, but I'd go with Dawn French. In Thailand we've just got BBC Prime and my wife loves 'Vicar of Dibley' but not 'French and Saunders'. I don't really go for either, or indeed 'Ab Fab', but if I absolutely had to choose I'd say Dawn French.
