I don't know if I'm a sheep if I'm the only person on the thread with this point of view, but you might be right. You are definitely right on this: I didn't do anything to deserve The Lost Children, or Leaving Neverland, or any of the straight up horror scenes I've got burned into my head from that documentary. That, I truly didn't deserve.

You're a sheep for letting a onesided movie like FN sway your opinion on and memories of Michael. Nevermind the overwhelming facts that all of them are only out for money. Your convictions should be stronger than to be turned over by a hackjob movie which sells you a story.

Haven't listened to it in close to 20 years. Heard it a couple times in the beginning and been pretending it doesn't exist ever since. It's horrible.

Yes. Skip Lost children and You are my life and it's perfect length. razz

If it comes down to how obsessively I personally played songs from each particular album. While I skipped songs on Rave other songs Im still obsessive over. I enjoyed the heck out of Invincible it brings a smile now but I don't get that same "need" for the songs. What more can I say. Beautifil Strange is enough for me.
Time keeps on slipping into the future...

A Michael Jackson song called The Lost Children? That's very creepy.

No. That in itself is not. He actually cared about children. It's just the song that sucks.

A new question: butterflies or the greatest romance ever sold?

I love both but I got to go with Butterflies. I love the vibe of this song. This sound was out of the box for Michael and his vocals here are fire. I would have loved other songs in this vein. It's interesting that both these songs remixes share the same rapper: Eve. I would have featured Redman on the Butterflies remix as he's got a song with the same beat. Just a fantasy

Yeah, of the two I also prefer butterflies though it took awhile to grow on me and didn’t catch me the first time. I felt the style was totally different from history and blood on the dance floor type of music

Yes. Like pretty much the whole album. Probably that's why it was a dissappointment at the time. Liked Butterflies right away though.

I felt happy his new music was out more than disappointed but when I heard the newish tracks on ultimate collection, I sort of fell out of love with invincible, which I used to think was great as bad and dangerous

Felt the same way: more happy than disappointed about Invincible after such a drought. The Ultimate Collection was a rare treat as it offered a handful of unreleased songs, some of which were better that what ended up on the album. It also showed that Michael didn't need to over record. His demos are the shiznit.

So true about him not needing to over record. Even though fall again was just a demo, he sounded good on it, but couldn’t finish it cause he caught a cold from his son and there was no time to get back to it. I also think we’ve had enough was also something special that could have been included on invincible

It was a treasure having him back for sure and the songs unbrrakable and heartbreaker got me right away, in fact I’m getting a tattoo of the word unbreakable soon!

Haven't listened to either but Invincible has some gems. Idk about Rave but the consensus on it seems to be that it was Prince clawing for mainstream relevance many years too late.

But we're talking commercial success here... in which case Invincible wins. It at least had a Top 10 single with "You Rock My World" (unfortunately his last before his passing), debuted at #1 and while not the hot seller MJ's previous works had been, still sold well enough to be considered a commercial success in a general sense. Rave just came and went.

Lots of albums from the 90s are on the long side. I think many artists took too much advantage of the larger capacity CDs have versus LPs. The average 1 disc album of the 90s would be a double if not triple or even quadruple LP had it been released a 10+ years earlier.

Yes. and this is what I do with overlong albums. But it does bring down my overall impression of the album. For example, if Thriller had an additional 5 tracks I would think less of the albums. I don't know how to explain. Perhaps I just like to think of records as succinct and to-the-point works of art.

I didn't understand that point of view until recently to be honest.
.
To me, it was easier to make Thriller a better album than if it had 16 tracks on it such as Invincible.
If Invincible had only 9 or ten tracks, of course it would have worked better.
But I appreciate that MJ preferred to give as much as he could to fill the CD for the fans 'money.
.
I was only 15 when Invincible came out, so while I already thought there were too much clunkers on it ( I disliked Heaven Can Wait, and tracks 9 to 13!), this didn't Disturbed me much.
That was the time when I coul listen to the 36 Émancipation tracks in a row without asking questions.
.
When I wanted to hear the only songs I loved, I skipped the clunkers.
And if I didn't listen to the whole album for months, I enjoyed listening to the clunkers because I didn't hear it as much as the best tracks. It was like bonus tracks if you will, and that made me appreciate Heaven Can Wait.
.
And I didn't have Internet, so I had to stick to my CDs to listen to something.
.
But now as I grew older, have less time and brain for everything, and as there is so much valuable thing on the Internet, I understand your point of view.

.
I couldnt have coped with Émancipation if I were discovering this in my thirties. I have already difficulty to digest the 1999 and SOTT SDE : too much material in the same time.

The problem with Rave, is that the best and funniest track on it, Everyday is a winding road is a cover, then the second best PrettyMan is an hidden track...
.
There were no tracks on it that could have been an hit single.
So thrme whole project was doomed from the start.

Clive Davis struck GOLD w/Santana, but the Cops were so HELL's "Supernatural" Album! and I fell like Clive was pushing THAT formula w/"Rave Unto The Joy Fantastic", with MUCH MORE mixed results!

As far as Michael Jackson: HE DID NOT DO IT!!! #1)If Corey Feldman or Macaulay Culkin change Their Stories (so far They HAVEN'T), then I MIGHT believe it! Corey Feldman even told the Cops WHO molested Him (Mr. "Tiger Blood" Himself), but the Po-Po were so HELLBENT on getting MJ! And didn't the Father who TWICE alleged/extorted MJ kill Himself out of GUILT and the fact that the Wife and Kid left His Ass for such shenanigans? I believe so! So stop w/that old BULLSHIT!!! Both Projects were not Their best, but they each had Moments! R.I.P. 2 MJJ & PRN, BOTH Martyrs of this Business called Music.......

Rave - I remember I got quite excited when it was speculated Prince would work with an outside producer - really thrilled to see how much he would change, thought we might get something fresh - and then the TAFKAP was like "And the producer is.... PRINCE". Yeah, right neutral

No, because there is Whatever Happensthat beats anything on Rave, or anything after, beside Rainbow Children.
And if Sony and MJ were smart enough, it would have been a worldwide #1 as a second single, Invincible would have sold millions more, there would have been a third single, etc. And MJ would still be alive.

Invincible all the way, the mid tempo tracks and the ballads on that album were pure fire.

Rave had some quality cuts, too. Love the title track, I love u is great, Prettyman, Greatest Romance, even Baby knows. What baffled me were all those “duets” where you could hardly hear the other singers vocals...if you didn’t tell me that Gwen Stefani was on that album, I wouldn’t have known from listening to the song.

Yeah, that was stupid. On So far so pleased, not only you Don't hear Gwen Stefani, but you Don't hear Prince neither.
To think they wanted it as a first single is a joke, unless a VERY good music video.

Yes, it was a rare track that when you hear it for the first time, it s like it was always there.
I do think that Speechless could have been a huge, and a timeless hit too. I loved it the first time I listened to it, such as Butterflies, despite being disappointed overall the first listening of the album.
.
When Threatened ended, by my pseudonym, I thought " What? Is it really it? Four years for that rnb shit? " And I was only 15 years old. But I hoped for a pop/rock album such as History, even better than History.
.
Since I thought from Off The Wall, each MJ album was better than the last, it was for me an artist that bonafide with time.
.
Invincible was such an heartbreak...
Rave was one of the first Prince album I listened to, so I have fond memories of it, better than Invincible, for which I had too much hopes.
.
But objectively, Invincible is far better than Rave.
