Fire? This is horrible. I hope i will never again witness another female artist defending 'power of women' with atrocious rap self-centered confessions.

Make Me Feel is more like The Gold Standard Pt. 2. Everytime I sing the hook I can't help but sing "go go go" like P did in that 1. I'm liking this 1 alot more now, btw. Had it on repeat 4 a lil while earlier . For all time I am with you, you are with me.

Yes! I love that episode. One of my favorites from the serie.
but in the song I think it's a reference to Alice in Wonderland.
Am I the only one who think she looks like a younger Tamron Hall with her hair short?

I think it’s in danger of being one of those typical modern RnB albums with an army of different writers/producers on every track and no consistency to the sound.

Agreed funkypixie. I saw a news about Madonna tweeting or instagramming at Guy OSeary about how she shouldn't be doing writing camps with so many people or something similar to that. How new is this kind of mutant writing process? I remember people thinking of how innovative Gnarls Barkley project was back in the day as the two had emailed vocals and tracks to put it together vs sitting in the studio. Madonna seemed to have a problem with the chilling and sitting around creating versus instagramming and presenting themselves to be working. This method seems like an awkward blend of the two with predominately younger writers that write songs in a hive like manner focusing on merits like having one song on all of a certain label or sponsors artists. It's so weird to me that like a band or a crew making albums is a novelty not the standard or aspiration. if it was just a dream, call me a dreamer 2

There is an excellent book called The Song Machine by John Seabrook which gives a great insight into this kind of approach to songwriting. All her LPs combined different sounds together to be honest but they were cohesive works. I hope her usual Wondaland production team will be back for other tracks!! I have faith in her considering she's not the usual R&B singer, she based almost her entire career on Afrofuturistic concept albums. Someone knows where can I find the credits for Django Jane?

Make Me Feel sounds (remotely) like Prince's Kiss... but in a weird way. I am in fact very sceptical about the legitimacy of Prince's involvement on the track, I think that might have been over-emphasized for 'monae'-making purposes. To me, it doesn't appear to have a real Prince vibe, only a very commercial one.

Janelle never said Prince wrote her song/songs on the album. She only said he helped her collecting sounds when she started working on Dirty Computer and that she misses him a lot. I think she is one of the few artists of the new generation to bring something different on the table and being her own persona and clearly Prince thought the same since he liked her to the point to feature on her previous album accepting to be produced by her team, something he wasn't usually inclined to do. I consider "Make me feel" her tribute to Prince and to the role he had in her life/career, being her mentor and all.

Make Me Feel is actually getting played on pop radio, a first for her. According to All Access Radio, the single made a big jump this past week into the top 50 radio hits for both top 40 and Hot Adult Contemporary stations, respectively.

Sigh DJ Lenka already said this is a track that Prince gave her to play at a party a few years ago. This is a Prince track. I am sure Janelle will tell more when the album comes out.
It is not a tribute it is a Prince track.

MattyJam said: Meh. In fairness, there ARE many Prince songs that sound like other songs that came before. And Prince supposedly features on the Janelle Monae song so it's bound to have his imprint on it somewhere. Also, we know from her previous work that she has her own style and individuality. But it's also refreshing to hear old school influences on modern pop music, especially when most modern pop music is so fucking awful that generic, talentless record company creations are held aloft and looked upon as modern day equivalents of artists like Michael Jackson etc. So when you hear someone like Janelle Monae pay tribute to the great artists of yesteryear, but also keeping true to herself, it IS exciting because it reminds you that REAL music is not dead yet. There is hope that this type of music will catch on and perhaps influence the next generation of artists so we don't end up with yet more generic, talentless record company creations clogging up the airwaves and the charts.
