I've only heard each song once but I'm really not liking Django Jane. It just sounds really annoying. Not my cup of tea at all.

Make Me Feel on the other hand, is exactly my cup of tea. Great song, great video.

I hope the rest of the album leans more towards the sound of Make Me Feel.

Both songs are dope, I dig the stark contrast and did hope for a melody in Django Jane but damn she has something to say, several things.
.
Feels like theres gonna be some androgyny goin' on, I like the shoving and the tension in the Make Me Feel video. And she looks cute as fuck. It's time folks in non-hip hop got to cussin' again.

I'm ready for the album. No Cindi Mayweather apparently this time. I love that Make me feel is an ode to her bisexuality! She's beautiful, talented and a good actress as well.

This girl is in my top 3 for this decade and I'm ready for her to break the mainstream. She deserves it. What a phenomenal talent.

The two lead singles are fucking brilliant.

I am in love with the creativity of this woman more and more every day and, naturally, after the interview that's just been published in The Guardian, I'm going to spend the days, weeks and months after the release of the new album trying to work out which are the sounds that she and Prince collected for this record.

She says he has gone to another frequency. I think she is playing on that frequency right now. You can hear it, can't you?

I like Make Me Feel, and Django Jane could grow on me, and there's enough in there to pique my interest in what she's getting ready to release. I always fear, with her, that there's an effort to take her out of her 'niche' status into the mainstream, and what that will mean artistically. With Electric Lady, she cleverly managed the trick of coming up with something more marketable but still with enough of the likeable quirkiness of the first album. These two clips sound promising, but I still have a little bit of a sense that things could go either way.

I can't deny a certain glee at seeing 'more of her' than we have previously, in the MMF clip. It does seem to steer predictably towards a path that's been an obligatory rite of passage for every middling female pop starlet since Janet Jackson, and isn't really that interesting beyond its enhanced fapulence. Musically, that track's got a nice Princely quality - though doing something that references the past is always somewhat double-edged. (One can't imagine a young Prince going with 'something that sounds a bit like Stevie Wonder'.) She led with a pastiche of a funk number last time around too, and along with the Prince references in the video, it could all start to feel a bit unoriginal.

As for Django Jane, well, I'm middle-aged, so I just have to accept that the 'yoots' find something in the musical content of this that I don't get. Lyrically, I guess it's 'saying something', though not much that hasn't been said elsewhere. My inherent pickiness aside, both tracks work and are much better than a lot of what's out there at the moment, and she's clearly an immense talent - so there's still everything to play for with the album.

I was thinking of this as I was listening to these two tracks, both are outstanding but totally not radio-friendly but she is not a radio performer by any means. Music consumers of a certain age and clarity should be able to discern between the two by now 2018 but I do agree that the mainstream push could be a double-edged sword but it could also be a path to success if she completely ignores that mentality of "if this is on the radio its a hit".

Well gatdayum, Janelle! I love "Make Me Feel". "Django Jane" is ...interesting.

I sorta feel like she's finally yet slowly coming out of the closet. It's no secret she's a lesbian. But "Make Me Feel" really teases her snatch-lovin' ways. Not just as a moment of female power alone, there are a lot of pussy references in "Django" as well.

One thing that struck me weird was her using the name "Alice" in the song. It immediately reminded me of the Elton John song "All The Girls Love Alice", which is a song about lesbians. Probably a coincidence, but it seems interesting.

I thought it was a reference to Alice In Wonderland. or in her case Alice in Wondaland smile

It is more probable than what I noted. As I said, it was probably just a coincidence. She could have said any name, and there would be another song reference once could make to it; doesn't make it related.

Or the guitar lick.

Visually I got a lot of vibes from Madonna's "Sorry", Beyonce's "Blow", Janet's "Rock With U", Robert Palmer's "Addicted To Love", "and even Prince's "Kiss" with the stark spartan backlit stage. Doesn't mean she was copying every one of those of course.

That's very touching, but why is she promoting all this sexual stuff, when she knows that Prince didn't approve of that anymore?

.

She's talented, but she is promoting all that illuminati stuff -- big turn-off for me. I guess this is how they have to sell albums today? confused

She isn't ripping him off or channeling him, he is no longer on this plane as she stated. This should be considered a tribute and a show of inspiration, IMHO. She was an approved collaborator, she gets to do wtf she wants and I can't wait to see what's next. Janelle even stated she was working with him on sound design for this project prior to 16.

I'm sure she's missing him a lot so I'm not surprised that her first single sounds so much inspired by his music tbh.

She gave us 2 solid tracks. I read that it will be a visual album and I was waiting for this since she released The Archandroid.
