In comment on youtube you can see on what level some people are existing... Song is about Bi! Yeah! Bi-sexual Anthem! Praise Monae! She spoke to us!

What in the funkin' heck? Like sex is some dirty taboo in these days... and its not. It reminds me about the time when Christina Aguilera drop that blasting 'Not MySelf Tonight' tune - she is doing things that she will not usually do, she is kissin boyz & girlz, blah,blah... But for consolation, Monae's tune is far more smoother than Christina's...

Do some of y'all think she's afraid to say she is a Lesbian for fear that would hurt her music career, and/or image?

.

People say the same thing about Queen Latifah.

.

Personally, I don't think anyone should feel the need to disclose their sexual preference. What you do behind closed-doors is your own damn biz! wink

I agree. I keep checking the iTunes chart and it’s stuck somewhere in the 40s (in the U.K.). How? Just how?

I always just assumed she was a lesbian or bi. Never really put much thought into it. Never cared one way or another. Then again, I think deep down that everyone is bisexual but that's another story for another day.

It's not a mystery. She told Sway on his radio show in 2013 that she's bisexual. I tend to believe she might lean more to being a full-on lesbian. But her sexuality is not a secret.

Dana is a lesbian. She's been with that "trainer" for years and she's still a bit too chunky. It's no secret either. She's been pictured kissing her "trainer" on a boat w/ Wiz and Alicia.

But saying your bi is risk free for a female entertainer. Saying your lesbian though might hinder your career. (for a male entertainer it's almost the opposite. Many people are troubled by the idea that male sexuality can be fluid too and prefer queer men to come all out as gay rather than blur the lines with talk of bisexuality.)

I watched the actual interview. She only says Prince was helping her collect sounds. Now all of a sudden he did her album. C’mon now.

Before y'all start shitting on an album that isn't out yet, she also said she was at Paisley Park a lot. They weren't playing ping pong 24/7. They were making music. Someone confirmed "Make Me Feel" is a Prince groove he gave her.

When the album comes out, the true extent of his input will be revealed in the credits.

They missed the mark on it. "Kiss" has two or three basic chords. They should have changed the chord for Janelle to sing over. Also, when JM's breaks and she says "that's just the way you make me feel", that's the time to put the smooch-smooch-smooch-smooch-KISS under it. The ideas are there, but they should have spent a little more time on it to finesse it a bit.

I think Janelle the risk taker is coming back! She played a little safe on "The electric lady" compared to her previous stuff. The trailer for the narrative film got me really hyped, and these 2 tracks are fire. I wanted a visual album from her since the Archandroid.

I don't think she's playing coy for marketing reasons about being bisexual, I can totally see her being attracted to both sexes.

I was actually talking about Janelle Monae but I suppose the same applies to Queen Latifah.

I think she never wanted her sexuality to limit her or to become her thing that people immediately think of when they think of her music. She wanted people to think of, eh, robots. Or afro-futurism or whatever.

I don't love all her music but I appreciate that she's looking for something more than just finding a way to sell the most records.

It's funny how when people become famous, the public wants to know if they are straight, bi, or gay. Funny humans we are! lol
