Janelle Monáe Announces New Album, Dirty Computer

02/2018

Janelle Monáe has announced her first new album in nearly five years.

Dirty Computer is being described by Monáe as an “emotion picture.” Accompanying the announcement is a trailer for the forthcoming project, featuring Monáe and actress Tessa Thompson in a futuristic world.

A release has yet to be set. The album will serve as the follow-up to Monáe’s 2013 album, The Electric Lady.

Maybe we'll find out what happens to Cindi Mayweather in Metropolis.

Great to know! It will be marvellous if the songs do not sound so much like Stevie Wonder or Michael Jackson, not to knock either of those icons. Her projects have been so interesting with such a high level of musicianship and singing that to have had so much of her last 2 albums' songs sound so derivative, it's been a distraction to me from her own greatness. With that being said I cheer this project on!

It's so layered and intricate at times. I think it's a tad better than The Electric Lady, although it's nothing to sneeze at. "Suite II" has a modern Wizard of Oz feel about it. I think "Suite II" and "Suite III" are the better of the intros to each set so far in the Mayweather storyline.

People forget stuff like "Dance or Die", "Faster", "Tightrope", "Oh, Maker", and the incredible "Cold War".

Oddly, I have never gotten into Metropolis: The Chase Suite EP much yet. Perhaps I should give it another listen.

Gosh--I haven't listened to The Archandroid in a while now--guess I wore it out! I'll probably play that one again, tonight. I liked Metropolis: The Chase Suite. It was punky, with classic soul (and classic pop with "Smile" at the end), a gutsy combo done to a Sci-Fi narrative to set the tone for J.M.'s volumes to come--pretty cool, I still think.

I feel Janelle Monae is a better actress than singer.

I think that translates to her music as she often embodies a character or tells a story within her releases similar to David Bowie. TBH initially I wasn't that big on her because I thought her voice was a bit awkward/tinny but it has grown on me exponentially. I don't consider her a stellar singing talent but she has a stage presence with talent to back it up that is much needed nowadays.

She's also VERY beautiful in person.

Im ready for it. I really liked Electric Lady. I skipped Archandroid of rsome reason but I do own Metropolis as well (impressed but didnt give that one many listens as Electric Lady which had more conventional tunes I can remember on it).

Well gatdayum, Janelle! I love "Make Me Feel". "Django Jane" is ...interesting.

I sorta feel like she's finally yet slowly coming out of the closet. It's no secret she's a lesbian. But "Make Me Feel" really teases her snatch-lovin' ways. Not just as a moment of female power alone, there are a lot of pussy references in "Django" as well.

One thing that struck me weird was her using the name "Alice" in the song. It immediately reminded me of the Elton John song "All The Girls Love Alice", which is a song about lesbians. Probably a coincidence, but it seems interesting.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Wow! I'm glad she's getting away from black & white now. The swearing is a new addition to her(Prince wouldn't like that). But like that she's getting more daring & revealing. "Make me Feel" is hot!.
