Congrats bit Janet is not the first to do this. Jody Watley formed her Avitone imprint after leaving MCA. Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

Um, what? Rhythm Nation Records? LMAO! That'd be like Michael forming "Beat It Records," TLC forming "Ain't 2 Proud to Beg Records," Lauryn Hill forming "That Thing Records," Celine forming "Because You Loved Me Records." Tacky name, but whatevs. [Edited 6/3/15 7:41am] "Janet Jackson is like an 80s sitcom that's been off the air for over 25 years; you see a rerun and realize it wasn't that great..."

Does anyone from here go to the janet.xone forum?
The moderators are terrible. Not only do they edit my posts without my permission, but they delete ones they don’t like.
A TOTAL DICTATORSHIP – it’s sickening.
I can only hope someone takes the monopoly they have with this new era and starts a new forum where you are able to discuss your opinions freely.

Didn't Janelle Monae become arguably the first African-American woman to start her own record label like a week ago?

I don't know who was the 1st, but Sylvia Robinson, who was in the 1960s group Mickey & Sylvia and also had the solo hit Pillow Talk in the 1970s, started Sugarhill Records. Now that I think about it, Vee Jay Records was run by a black couple, who were non-performers. did she start her own company where she own it and all her music or did she get a label deal ? well the article does say 'arguably' maybe there is something with this label thats different or maybe janelle and jody are just not high profile enough to draw attention, this is already on every entertainment outlet.

I can only hope someone takes the monopoly they have with this new era and starts a new forum where you are able to discuss your opinions freely. I'm there. And yes I hate the way they control it. But they have the tea over there so I have no choice but to be there. Janet should just add a forum to her website. BlackCat1985

Is it me or does that press release reads like a fan wrote it? - This is great news. "Rhythm Nation Records" though? I just expected something more original for a record company name from her. However, I do understand the significance that name carries for her too. She always have been associated with that album and its success. Afterall, it proved that "Control" wasn't just a fluke. - Glad she has her ownership rights upfront this time! Good for her!

Thanks for the info Militant! Great news indeed! Looking forward to new music, videos, tour, etc. I'm also interested in the details of her partnership with BMG. Sounds like its going to be pretty lucrative for her.

Yeah! I heard about this. I'm just patiently waiting. Janet hasn't released any music in quite awhile. So I'm more than ready. BlackCat1985

What's the problem with Janet calling her label Rhythm Nation? Jermaine Dupri's label is So So Def. Oh and some guy named James Brown had a label called Try Me records Still don't get it? Some folks are [Edited 6/3/15 17:23pm] Don't laugh at my funk

Michael Jackson planned to name his MJJ Music label "Nation Records" to tribute Janet, though the name had already been copyrighted. I like Rhythm Nation name. Janet already owns her old music masters (yes, she was smart), and now she will own her future music. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are working on their album with various artists, and it will probably be one of first releases thru Rhythm Nation Records. So exciting
BTW being signed to a big record company doesn't help you much. We have many examples from Madonna whose singles didn't chart at all to Britney Spears and J.Lo just to name a few. Nothing to lose.

Janet Jackson's career window has closed...she's too old and not supremely talented enough, like Chaka or Aretha or Patti, to continue her career well past her prime...so, im not sure what new material she would be releasing, unless its for other artists to release their stuff...except for the few die hard janet fans (like the few on this site), aint nobody checking for anything new from Janet Jackson.
