Janet Jackson's career window has closed...she's too old and not supremely talented enough, like Chaka or Aretha or Patti, to continue her career well past her prime...so, im not sure what new material she would be releasing, unless its for other artists to release their stuff...except for the few die hard janet fans (like the few on this site), aint nobody checking for anything new from Janet Jackson.

Old (over 40) female pop singers aint whats happenin...

Janet is a veteran artist now, just like Madonna,Mariah,Prince and the others. This means that the hit parade has stopped and she will have a hard time competing on the charts with Beyonce,Katy Perry and the others. She will need to focus on touring, since that's where the real money is anyway.

She won't be getting Top 40 radio treatment but that's an obvious and forgone conclusion at this point. It's not like she needs it anyway when it means even less than it did when she was in her prime and racking up chart topping hits decades ago. If Madonna (who like every veteran act/ legend isn't getting mainstream airplay), as overexposed and old as she is can still have a career, there's no reason to assume Janet can't.

Prince is supremely talented, his career has been well past its prime and no one is checking for his new music, yet why isn't he told to sit down? Is he trying to compete with younger artist or is he just releasing music for the love of it? Why is it that when Janet or any other woman of a certain age wants to release music there has to be this underlining intent to compete with younger artists? Why do older male artists get to continue to release music that flops but aren't tagged with that "trying to compete" line? Janet has been doing this longer than most of you were probably alive. If she wants to continue releasing music then she has just as much right to do so as other older artists. You know it really is sad to see this thread. Here you have another black woman starting their own label, yet instead of congratulations, you see people like you telling her to hang up and idiots saying she's the next Ashanti. Just ridiculous the unnecessary hate this woman gets.

Rhythm Nation is a great name for a record label. Yes, it points to the album (and song) but it has a larger, epic meaning when applied to a generation of artists. "We are a part of the Rhythm Nation".

just ignore. nobody has even heard the music yet so at this point all negative comments are merely hating for no reason. how can any artist, especially a black female, owning her own shit and doing her own thing be bad or negative?

Exactly!!! If Janet wants to still create and release music why can't she? And I like Ashanti but she isn't and will never be on Janet's level. Her last album didn't get 1/3 of the attention that Janet's new album announcement is getting. Just NO!

It is a proven fact that RN inspired Michael on his album Dangerous. L.A Reid and Travis Payne have both confirmed this. Hell I just listened to Travis in an interview today saying how much Micheal loved RN and the knowledge. He would pick those two songs specifically because he liked the music and the message in the music. It was not the journalist's opinion it is FACT! You just can't handle the fact that Janet influenced and inspired her older brother just as he influenced and inspired her.

Since Teddy Riley worked on some songs on the brothers 2300 Jackson Street album including the title track, aren't they a more direct influence on Dangerous? smile

Me too! biggrin I think the curtain is slowly being pulled back, and the realization of why she took so long is pretty evident. It takes a minute to start your own label. That coupled with just taking the time to live her life, the downtime was great for her to get rejuvenated, and come back to SLAY lol.......

Travis specifically said that Jimmy and Terry were two of Michael's favorite producers. And in an interview L.A. Reid did he said that Michael talked so much about RN that he wasn't sure if Michael wanted him and Babyface or Jimmy and Terry.

Glad she did because 20Y.O and discipline were not Janet albums. And as a longtime Janet fan I knew it. She needed this time to fall in love, deal with Mj's death, and to get over JD. Which something tells me she was already over JD for some time before they broke up. Her and Wissam started dating just months after her and JD split. Home girl already had him waiting in the wings. Lol!

maybe mike didnt love the songs he did with them. its a fact rhythm nation made a big impact on mj. rodney jerkins said when he first met with mj he gave him a list of music to listen to and rhythm nation was one of them. not only has people who worked directly with mj talked about his love for RN, mike said it himself. why is it impossible for michael to have been influenced by something he enjoyed from his sister?

Janet is one of the biggest stars this planet ever had and I didn't even know who's Ashanti without Google razz Anyway, Janet should still make music if she wants to. You know I have been saying that for the longest time.

'Bad' is too much like 'Nasty' - the concept, video etc.

Although I believe 'The Lady in my Life' definitely influenced 'Funny how time flies' and the baby making slow jams that followed suit.
