Ledisi, who plays gospel singer Mahalia Jackson in the Martin Luther King Jr. biopic, responded to the controversy on the GRAMMY red carpet Sunday – and admitted that she “had no clue” why Beyonce was performing it over her.
“What I will say and what I’m excited about is that I had the pleasure of playing an iconic figure in Selma, and the song, ‘Take My Hand, Precious Lord,’ it’s been going on forever – starting with the queen Mahalia [Jackson], the queen of soul Aretha Franklin,” Ledisi told ET’s Kevin Frazier on the carpet.
“Then, I was able to portray and sing my version of the song, and now we have Beyonce. Her generation will now know the song, so I’m a part of history,” she continued.

WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
I know Beyonce is shady and full of herself but this is LOWWWWWWWWW, nasty, and SPITEFUL!
I don't understand how people put money in her pocket and perpetuate that she is so nice and humble when it is clear that is just a facade!
Beyonce has brought ALL her awards nobody can not tell me otherwise!
Damn I feel bad for Ledsi and her fans!!!!!!!!!
Ledsi gotta sit up in the damn audience and watch someone else sing her nominated song!

What makes this all the worse is I bet she'll murder it. Beyoncé's fine at singing something like a pop/R&B ballad in which she can growl and warble a bit in a dramatic, stagey way, but she has nothing like the richness and variation of tone, the control, and the depth Ledisi displays in that recording. I can already imagine her making a show of 'digging deep' and making it all too apparent that she really doesn't go that far down.
Your prediction came true. She butchered the song.

ITA. Beyonce been doing shady stuff throughout her career but this time she really crossed the line. I knew as soon as I read this story that SHE was the main person who was behind having her sing this song instead of Ledisi--it wasnt the Grammy producers idea at first but they are just as wrong for letting her sing it. Hopefully now that she's exposed her true colors, people will wake up and stop worshipping this overrated overexposed mediocre entertainer. This was such a disgusting thing for her to do, meglomania much?
Oh and she sucked singing this song. The beginning notes were off pitch and she sounded lifeless and soulless. She doesnt have the chops to pull off a big song. Ledisi should have sang it but I hope she will get a chance to sing it at the Oscars. [Edited 2/8/15 22:09pm] |

I also thought it was disrespectful how Kanye ran up on stage and attempted to renact his "Imma let you finish" moment just because Beyonce did not win AOTY So everytime she doesn't win he is going to do that? Am I the only one that finds it disrespectful? Beyonce and Jay Z was laughing too Beck was like "Kanye bring your ass back on stage". Ya'll notice how Kanye sat his punk ass back down right? The black pop stars of this generation are an obnoxious narcistic group of people. For crying out loud, have some damn respect! Beck is a legend! None of these people get a DIME out of my pocket! Yeah, SMH at Punkye's punk move. He's such a PUNK! Him, JayZ and Beyonce: all punks who need to go away! I'm glad Beck stood up to him and challenged him right back. And Kanye being the punk he is had to sit his clown self down! |

"Ledisi Matters!"
Strange.... A film about fairness, equal-opportunity, and freedom (under The Bible no-less)... And a show with segments about abusing women (mostly)..
All I have to say is Ledisi will get other "make-up" opportunities--after this outrage online..
Now, she will definitely be singing the song alone at the Academy Awards in a few weeks..
It's a shame that it will take this negative response for all of this to happen, but I believe that will be the consolation prize for her now..

This was the Grammy committee's AND Beyonce's decision. You better believe she probably brought it to the table to begin with. At last year's telecast, she was performing as a prostitute and now this year singing "Precious Lord, Take My Hand"??? She's absolutely disgusting! What an attention whore. She will stop at nothing to get attention, even if it means stepping on other people. If she had any integrity whatsoever, she wouldn't have even considered the performance. Damn shame. Just because white folks don't know Ledesi, I guess Beyonce and the committee felt it was okay. She nor the Grammy Committee would have NEVER done dissed someone like Aretha or Anita Baker. Can you imagine the fallout from that? "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Beyonce and her PR people have total control over what the media says about her. They would NEVER call her out for what she pulled last night. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

So in other words: no. The org is one of the few places where you'll find ridiculously feigned hostility over the whole thing by perpetually embittered detractors of Beyonce who are known to have a cartoonish hissyfit if she so much as sneezes. From what I can tell, the rest of the media/world is either largely oblivious to the whole thing or doesn't much care if they do know about it. The Grammy's is nothing but a PR stunt for a few artist from the major label.. This show has never had any credibility or importance.... 24 later few people could recall who won what or why. An artist work and discography give them credibility and significance. So, everyone take a deep breath.
I didn't watch the show but Ledesi shouldn't have shown up. For real... Ledesi shouldn't show up to the Grammy's ever again. This woman doesn't need the Grammys, she didn't need when she break into the biz she doesn't need then now. Besides, I'm sure not only did the Grammy's think that Ms. Knowles would bring more viewers... the also took into considered Ledesi didn't have the right, "look". Yes, i said it, cuz its true.

She already told ya'll that it's her world, "now bow down bitches." I believe that is truly how she feels about her peers. If Taylor Swift was Teyana Smith and was only popular in the urban markets, she would not have been so gracious to give Taylor her time on stage.
-
Ermbody was wrong in this. Beyonce obviously, John Legend & Common for agreeing to do it, the Grammys for signing off on it for ratings sake (because we all know that's what motivated them). Why common didn't protest the Grammys or Beyonce when she/they approached them with replacing Ledisi? Does Ledisi not matter Common?
-
Ledisi handled the situation on the red carpet with dignity and grace. Very politically correct but classy nonetheless. |
