Good grief --

You'd think Bey would be wanting to perform the slowed-down versions of her songs on the "Fifty Shades of Grey" soundtrack to coincide with the movie...

after all, she is the queen of rehashing/marketing her product. Maybe next year...

This reminds me of when Obama had Beyonce performing the Etta James classic "At Last" at his inauguration ball...instead of the real Etta James, who was still alive back then! nuts Why does Beyonce get all of these opportunities?! Etta James was rightfully pissed off about that.

and if Beyonce had any decency, she would have declined the Grammys' invitation and insisted that Ledesi be allowed to perform that song...give someone else a chance to shine, for once!

Wow. So Ledisi has to sit in the audience as a nominee, and watch her competition get up and do HER SONG?! That's cold. disbelief

So instead of allowing a new talent to get over on an international stage and establish a [larger] following from such a rub with the song originally performed by her, the Grammy committee instead sees fit to give the song to one of the most overexposed artists in music today for a short term ratings boost?

Shame on the Grammy committee for doing this and shame on Beyonce for accepting and being a party of this nonsense.

Given that Beyonce is a multiple nominee this year she could've performed ANY song off her album.

Wouldn't it be something if she performs TWICE?!?!?!

Well isn't this truly fucked up? Thank goodness I'm not going to waste time watching the overhyped underwhelming award show.

Um, you do realize Prince has something "big" planned for this years show???

I'm hopelessly holding out for my Prince/Bruno/Ronson "Uptown Funk" prediction to pan out. lol

Outrageous--when did they start letting other people perform the nominated singer's song, disbelief

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Because money talks. The press is saying this was a decision by the Grammy producers but I wonder how true that really is? I would not be surprised if Beyonce went to the producers herself and "requested" to sing this song and offered to give a nice hefty amount of $$ to get this spot. She's so desperate to remain in the spotlight and remain at the top I can see her doing this. Plus the fact that she didnt decline this opportunity and let Ledesi rightfully perform this song speaks volumes. Never forget this industry is run by politics and money--those with the most money usually get what they want and can get away with pretty much everything because that money gives them power. People are so easily bought off. The Grammys aint nuthin but a sham disbelief

Though I like beyonce, I don't believe for a second after all these years she could be naive about why they want her. I think it is a sellout move, and I would have flat out refused if in her position and advocated for the original singer to do it on her own. Etta James I can understand cause I think she did play her in a movie that time though the real Etta would have been better

She needs some humble pie that's what.

That's what this made me think of as well. She's so quick to snub another "Black" female artist...but she sure gave Taylor Swift her time to shine on stage after Kanye wrecked her little moment...but nobody wants to talk about that. This Negeopean is doing too much as usual...

the thing is....if Beyonce wants to perform on the Grammys, she could easily just do one of her own songs. Why do a song that was recorded by another artist (who will be there too) and not let them have their opportunity to shine? Beyonce wasn't involved in the 'Selma' movie in any way.

Beyoncé HAD to do quick damage control in the Taylor Swift situation because he used HER name to justify disrupting Taylor's speech and downplaying her win. If she hadn't, she too would have suffered during Kanyes media backlash. Already they were bitterly insulting her on YouTube because of what Kanye did.

I see that.

But is she that dumb that she doesn't see how wrong it is for her, even if she was approached by the grammys, to perform this song?

Will she apologize before or after the fact to Ledesi for taking a moment that was rightfully hers?

What makes this all the worse is I bet she'll murder it. Beyoncé's fine at singing something like a pop/R&B ballad in which she can growl and warble a bit in a dramatic, stagey way, but she has nothing like the richness and variation of tone, the control, and the depth Ledisi displays in that recording. I can already imagine her making a show of 'digging deep' and making it all too apparent that she really doesn't go that far down.

And yet I see NO outrage in the RB communtiy on this one, where are the Jill Scott's and TANK and peeps like that, that bitch and moan about RB radio and fucking sexual images and also the critics in general. ALSO shame on fucking Beyonce for accepting this, she is in a position where she can turn things down, and if she is the "Artist" that she thinks she is, then shit you got power fucking use it and preserve shit. Im tired of people complaining and then when an issue pops up everyone crawls into a corner and says nothing, where are the talk show hosts, where is RB radio where are other artists on the DISRESPECT this is.

Long time ago at the Academy Awards the same shit happend to PHIL COLLINS im sure many remember this, he was up for Against All Odds and a DANCER was put in his place to fucking SING, and horribly, Phil sat in the audience cringing at the version being done, he said he was told NO artist nominated that year was going to be allowed to sing, however all were asked but him, Kenny Loggins asked but declined, Stevie Wonder performed, Phil was left off obviously for his look, or just plain HATE since he was at that time the biggest fucking artist on the planet.

whitney was like 9 months pregnant or just had bobbi kris, there is no way the oscars would not have had her do her own songs. its cold blooded for beyonce to sing ledisi's song with her sitting in the audience.

WOW eek

And people always complain about the so called "hate" Beyonce gets but these types of things is why people criticize her. Besides being ridiculously overrated, Beyonce is very full of herself and very self-centered. It is downright disrespectful that she did not decline this. I can imagine how Ledsi must feel as well as her fans!! You mean to tell me they did not ask Ledsi to sing HER OWN song?? Thats f^%ked up! disbelief This is like a new LOW and low of Beyonce "queen of the universe in her head nuts" to accept this shit.

Ledisi, who plays gospel singer Mahalia Jackson in the Martin Luther King Jr. biopic, responded to the controversy on the GRAMMY red carpet Sunday – and admitted that she “had no clue” why Beyonce was performing it over her.

“What I will say and what I’m excited about is that I had the pleasure of playing an iconic figure in Selma, and the song, ‘Take My Hand, Precious Lord,’ it’s been going on forever – starting with the queen Mahalia [Jackson], the queen of soul Aretha Franklin,” Ledisi told ET’s Kevin Frazier on the carpet.

“Then, I was able to portray and sing my version of the song, and now we have Beyonce. Her generation will now know the song, so I’m a part of history,” she continued.

Meanwhile John Legend, who joins Common later this evening to perform their Oscar-nominated song “Glory,” revealed to ET that Beyonce approached them about singing “Precious Lord, Take My Hand.”

“You don’t say no to Beyonce,” he told Kevin.
