I find it disturbing and sick that someone would say on tv that they hope mj would self destruct and that his life ends tragically, don't you? But don't you think they said this and it imprinted ideas in the public's mind towards him?

And if you want to go on believing Bad killed his career, then I wish I could have a ruined career with that many accolades, recognition and innovation for generations where I'm performing at my peak and have full control over my creative decisions, and have the last laugh in the end too...with inner strength to deal with the public watching my skin change colour overtime without a choice in the matter

Go watch the jacksons billie jean victory tour music video, michael is referred to as THE KING in that video, in 1984!!!! This was my first memory of Michael when I could just remember things in flashes. He was called prince of pop in thriller era publications, referred to as pop king generally or the jackson family as pop royalty since if not constantly. i know liz gave him the name and he told Oprah this, but if he told her to say it or if she said it on her own, that is not relevant when he was already being called one anyways. This is not your p diddy, ashanti, ciara, etc. coming out with a debut album and being deemed royalty upon a debut album, so if he wanted to name himself Kop if that were the case, it's just an extension of what was already being said, but someone out there saying he self-proclaimed it, and that sticking with people who suddenly develop amnesia. Go whine about elvis's title if it bothers you that much!

[Edited 9/29/12 22:59pm]

no, they did NOT say they hoped that he self destruct.......

they said they hoped that he WOULDN'T........big difference....

the main guy said that Michael was talented and didn't owe the world anything because he had already given of himself as much as he could, and said that he couldn't continue to meet the level of expectation placed before him because he would eventually burn out...and that's exactly what happened...

you have expectations yourself and then you have the world's expectation.....

that's the thing........yes, I enjoyed what he did, I loved it, and was just as eager to see how he was going to follow up to THRILLER as much as anyone else when the word was out that he was returning back to the scene, but it wasn't like I would always expect something from him on call because he had proven his point with THRILLER.....same goes for any artist who I have supported as well

remember those 2006 World Music Awards, where many of his current fans EXPECTED him to perform that night when he was scheduled to attend the show to receive the Diamond Award for THRILLER reaching 100 million sales worldwide

and when he confirmed that he wasn't going to perform.....I saw the reaction w/my own two eyes, and read the comments...many of his current fans booed Michael Jackson, because their entitlement wasn't going to be met......and that the entertainment value superceded the acknowledge of the human toll

THAT is what those 2 british guys were referring to in 1987? some 19 years before the fact.....those were 2 guys that held the human toll in higher esteem the entertainment value

as far as 1984, yeah, he was being called KING......the king of entertainment, because he had proven it during the defining moments, so when the people acknowledge you as such during the time of merit, then it's all good, all of the great performers over time have been known as a special distinction....

you're right, it's no big deal about a nickname

but elizabeth taylor did not come up w/that phrase....only reason most of his fans believe she did is because he stated that during that Oprah interview of 1993,

http://www.youtube.com/wa...L-PwXiqpZI

and she never mentioned the term KING OF POP..........

during the 1989 Soul Train Music Awards, which is on tape itself, she mentioned KING OF POP, ROCK, and SOUL

while in fact, he demanded MTV identify him as such publically as he was scheduled to perform for their 10 year anniversary special.....in 1991, during the time of Dangerous release

and right before his performance started, a spokesman for MTV spoke over the footage and said KING OF POP: MICHAEL JACKSON

http://www.youtube.com/wa...3q-ngaPvRE

both KING OF POP, ROCK, AND SOUL and KING OF POP was coined by Bob Jones, who Michael relied on to come up w/those distinctions, since he was Michael's P.R. manager, whic makes since when P.R. stands for public relations....

The fact that there's even a serious debate about something that is so widely known really shows how deluded and dishonest MJ fans are. There is absolutely no question that MJ dubbed himself KOP. So many different sources have confirmed it so many times, but because MJ denied it, his fans simply close their eyes to the clear truth. It's painful to watch these people sometimes. They lie to themselves first and then get angry when faced with the truth because they've convinced themselves their lies are in fact true.

tell me something, when did michael jackson become credible? lying in the begining about his surgery, lying bout his self hate issue, lying about relationship with women, lying about his relationship with little boys, lying about his feelings on working with q, enen though sony did'nt really pay him what he seserve as a result of thriller thanks to mike.

Michael was taught PR with Berry Gordy and Motown, and was made to lie about his age and he was a believer that publicity was something good, and that he didnt have to tell all the truth. Problem was that not even Michael was ready for the kind of fame he recieved, so it backfired. Why do people care about his nose jobs so much? Everyone from Marlon Brando, Elvis, Marlyn Monroe to modern stars like Halle Barry, Madonna, Tom Cruise has had surgery. Lying about his self hatred? MJ loved being black but he wasnt the "typical" black man either, he ALWAYS spoke higly of his culture, his heritage and where he came from. He felt that black people were the orignators of music and dance, he would go into the anatomy of rhythm in black babies - something he was very proud of. He gave MILLIONS to black charities in the US and in Africa. He dedicated his album Invincible to a hate crime in Norway (a black kid who got killed by nazis) In the 00s he was working with different politicians about the AIDS problem in Africa and he was very concerned about the political situation in Sudan & Somalia.

" Wesley Snipes said that he once spent three hours speaking with Michael “about metaphysics, psychology, ‘how the black man is treated,’” saying, “people don’t know about Mike on the real, Mike had a consciousness that could blow your mind and he could recite things that could blow your mind as well.”

He clearly knew he was A BLACK MAN, he was proud of it - he embraced it, just because he married 2 white women publicaly doesn't mean anything about his blackness or where he comes from. Many black men have done this but I suppose Michael couldnt?

MJ faced racism like any other minority in the US and obviously understood the struggles of being a black man. Just because you're famous doesn't change the fact that some people are going to discriminate you because of your skin color. I guess when he became white because of vitiligo, he forgot he was black right?

I also think that MJ was feared by many people because he didnt represent the idea of how a black man should be and behave, he wasnt the macho ideal that many people have of black men. That's why even other black people like Louis Farrakhan in the Thriller era was telling other people that MJ was destroying the black youth by being a "sissy". What is often unknown or not conventional is always looked as strange and crazy in modern society.

"In the broadcast, Farrakhan said: “… we have today a Michael Jackson who is winning all kinds of awards because he is a great and marvelous performer. But the image that he projects to young black men is an image that we should all reject.”

Farrakhan said, “This… Jehri-curl, female acting, sissified-acting expression is not wholesome for our young boys, nor for our young girls. Certainly the man is a great singer, certainly, he’s a powerful entertainer. We cannot and we would never try to take anything away from our brother.”

He went on to contend that Michael Jackson is setting a poor example for black youth. “This is a shame. But, of course, men like this will live to die of old age, because they threaten nothing.”

I believe that MJ suffered from dysmorphic disorder because he hated the way he looked (the acne as a teenager, Joe & cousins teasing him about the nose, the shape of his face, being anorectic different periods of his life, the vitiligo (from brown to lily white) the lupus - that broke down his body at various times in his life time.) He was an extremly talented man, but he was also extremly vunerable..

MJ was INNOCENT.

WOW!!! This thread got interesting. I have never known one person to have people so riled up. LOL

Also Quincy being a jackass has nothing to do with MJs sugerys, vitiligo etc. If he really wanted to help him, you reach out in private.. NOT diss publicly.

No one in here know what really went on in MJs life that led him to make the decisions he did, so dont try to act like you knew.

Aslo even if he did call himself the King of Pop.... SO WHAT!!! Who else could really own that title???

No one else would want that dumb ass title.

Dumb ass title......................really Gray. I agree ALOT of what you say majority of the time but on THIS issue you are being completely and utterly SNOBBISH for no reason. And then you claim your a MJ fan (which is bullshit) but look how insulting you are acting. That title goes beyond making Pop music alone and you act as if Prince NEVER made popular music at no point.

Michael has NEVER out of his mouth proclaimed to be the KOP.

Gray just doesnt like pop thats why he thinks the title is dumb razz But what he fails to realize is..... Michael changed the genre completely not just with music but with music videos, performances etc. Its unfair to lump the current direction of pop into that title because that has nothing to do with MJ and what HE did.

Scorp I've seen you on various MJJ blogs & sites over the past months, and to be honest your bitterness towards MJ is starting to get old. It seems as if you want to find information that supports your ideas about Michael, but let me tell you something - there are millions upon millions of blogs, articles, journalists, fans that wont agree with you at all. To contrary belief, his message was never broken down - rather it's something that many people (even people who don't care for the man) look up to. For millions of people across the globe that were affected by his money (he gave 300 million to charity and his estate still gives 20 % of his net worth to charity per year)and humanitarian work, it doesn't matter if he was black or white - he was just simply Michael Jackson. Just like Prince (this forum is dedicated to the purple yoda after all) is to many people across the globe, he's more than a color - he's an artist that unites people. So get off the negativity train and understand the man - that MJ was all about. He wasn't the crazy man that the mostly white media wanted to portray him like, he was more than that.

He wasn't the crazy man that the mostly white media wanted to portray him like, he was more than that.

hold on......you got me confused with another person

there was only one other MJ FORUM I really ever participated on and that was "King of Pop Discussion"......you can put that on record

and the only other forum where I participated is when I was invited to it, and I only posted two or three times and was about the music.......

other than youtube, that's it....

one thing I don't do is call other people out.....I don't have to....

the problem is that the current fanbase refuse to acknowledge the truth and choose to uphold the lies.....that's even more detrimental than any perceived negativity on my part......

as far as the humanitarian work......his REAL CHARITY was the music that he presented in fullness before the pop ascension robbed him of his essential goodness

I don't have to twist or distort anything because I've watched this entire situation unfold since 1979......I haven't forgotten anything, remember dates, when albums were released, their chart position (real chart position) the whole nine.....

If I'm bitter, if that's what you want to call it, I'm angry the way black culture has been totally exploited and shredded for profit and for gain, to where real black music doesn't exist anymore.....it has become formulatic rather than shaped from the spirituals that were uttered by those who fought for the struggle, upheld that struggle, and on many occassion, had to lose their life because of it.......genuine music has been destroyed as a whole where many great white artists have been phased out from the musical landscape as well, as well as those who represented the latino community from back in the day as well.......

that's what I'm mad about.....there's a REASON why there's so much crap on the airwaves, because the pop ascension movement took over the music industry in the late 80s and totally flipped it upside down.....

and the same reason Hip-Hop lost her essence was the same reason Michael Jackson self destructive, it's because the recording industry refused to allow premier black artists of the 1980s to function properly and present their talent in the manner God/The Creator intended

and being a black american myself, I've watched the deterioration take place in the beginning stage, than incrementally, then excascerbated to the point where the bottom has totally dropped out and everything has floundered.....

the pop ascension movement has robbed american music, hip-hop, culture, and music's leading presence...robbed each entity from their essential goodness........

I gotta right to be mad, because I had the opportunity to come up during the golden age of music and what I have to be subjected to in the present age is enough to make a grown man cry....

if enough people paid attention to Michael's cry in the mid 1990s, he admitted to the world that he had been robbed of his essential goodness

he pointed that out right there on the platter w/the song STANGER IN MOSCOW

http://www.youtube.com/wa...EEMi2j6lYE

he admitted he was totally isolated from his culture and his people......

everyone has a point of origin and if you're seperated from your center, your base, the spirit w/in you withers away day by day, year by year

and that's exactly what this guy was saying in that song and countless others as he sought the ultimate pop distinction and hinted at regret for doing it.....

I don't hate the individual nor any individual....I despise the situation itself

what else you wanna talk about?

Not true. MJ didn't have a chance to decline as offer wasn't made.

I've always heard that MJ was supposed to do the soundtrack to Batman but couldn't do it because of his contract and the Bad tour? I'm not 2 sure though. Then I also heard that both MJ & Prince were gonna do the music together - Prince was going to do the darker(Joker) music and MJ the lighter (Batman) soundtrack. That would have been amazing.

I agree with a lot of this, and also the first point. It's not like mj fans don't know about this the way some believe. I don't disagree that he used the media when he needed to either, but he was the king, he didn't wake up one day to demand he be called that without a foundation for it.

True! Even if it's true that shady Bob Jones person, came up with the term KOP, (which I think is BULLSHIT) it's not like James Brown didnt do the same thing. It's not a big deal...

Exactly, I knew James did the same thing, and said something about how people like them have to remind others of what they accomplished in those days....
