Would you say Annie Lennox is one of the all time great singers?

Watchng her part in the Olympic closing ceremony. To me, her solo stuff can be hit or miss. Loved her with the eurythmics better.

Without question! Not only does she have a truly unique and commanding voice, she has lent it to some of the most visionary and interesting music of the past 35 years.

Her early stuff with the Eurythmics, is far superior to their later stuff. I will take her a solo artist, anyday. Her solo material, is far less commerical and more to the point than all that other stuff. My favorite solo album of her's is, "Diva"....Classic album!

w/out doubt biggrin

she's considered one of the 100 greatest singers of all time, I would say that's an amazing distinction considering all of the singers who have come down the pike from the 20th century on.....

but as you say, she's definitely one of the best British singers of all time....

I like her a lot....she and George Michael just have that "thing", like they can sing just about anything and sound good. Her voice is unique and you're know Annie when you hear her, that is what I love the most.

Absolutely one of the all time great artists. Her career first with The Tourists, then Eurythmics and as a solo artist has been remarkable. Also remarkable is the great humanitarian work that she does. I'm glad she was given such a place of honor and prominence in the Olympics closing ceremonies - she greatly deserves it.

No, I wouldn't rank her as one of the all time greatest singers.

I really like her when she was part of the Eurythimcs. But, as a solo artist, she totally lost me.

She's great but not in my personal one of the all time greats smile... It's funny though, because I was complaining while watching the show the lack of female artists and I was like when the hell is Annie coming on the show, and then she showed up in that awesome pirate ship ;D

This is not even an argument... Annie (Eurythmics in general) doesn't get her props. She's one of the first images of rock I saw as a tyke.

I wouldn't. She's OK but never really hit it with me. I think she got by on her unique look as much as she did on the quality of her singing.

Speaking of which, WTF was up with the song she sang last night? Talk about a downer. I'm sure it was a great song but I thought it was totally wrong for the closing ceremony.

But she wasn't alone. Almost every song chosen was the wrong song.

Wrong Pink Floyd song. Wrong Annie Lennox song. And WTF was up with Russel Brand lip-synching for four minutes to a Beatles song wholly unsuited for an Olympic closing ceremony?

Definetly. Always been a big fan. Such a strong and soulful voice (up there with George and Teena for white soul). She's also an awesome song writer on top of that. She's never gotten her props. One of, if not, my favorite female artist

I have to disagree with that, Annie may have had a rather ''unique'' look for videos.

But the reason the songs where hits imo was because of her soulful delivery, i mean if some averag singer tried to hit the high notes on There Must Be An Angel & Who's That Girl... i don't personally think it would have been as successful biggrin

I mean, c'mon, I have a deep fondness for all thing Eurythmics, but no, not at all. She's a very capable singer, but waaaaaaay too smooth, especially in her solo career. She can express a certain something - but on of the all-time greats? Not a chance.

We've all possible overused the word the greatest... one of the greatest.

She's a cabable singer but not she's NOT in my opinion a great singer nor one of the greatest or however you wanna put it. Like shorttrini I enjoyed her music as a member of the Eurythmics but to be frank her solo stuff bored me stiff. Ms. Lennox is a damn good songwriter, hope in the future others cover her stuff... I just don't wanna hear her singing it.
