Maxwell Announces Limited Engagement Tour [img:$uid]http://i40.tinypic.com/dqr9cx.jpg[/img:$uid]
April 17, 2012
After Maxwell released the critically acclaimed BLACKsummers'night in 2009 -- his first album in eight years -- he scooped up two Grammys and went on a mega-successful co-headlining tour with R&B songstress Jill Scott.
BLACKsummers'night was supposed to be the first of a trilogy of albums, so fans have been left waiting for new music since then. Now, the suave crooner is throwing himself back into the limelight with a limited engagement of two-night stands, in which he'll be performing his entire discography.
The tour kicks off in L.A. at Staples Center on July 20. On the first night in each city, Maxwell will perform Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite and its follow-up, Embrya.
On the second night, he will perform Now and BLACKsummers'night. The singer will be backed by an 11-piece band.
Tour itinerary:
7/20 - Los Angeles, Staples Center *
7/21 - Los Angeles, Staples Center ^ 7/27 - Atlanta, Phillips Arena * 7/28 - Atlanta, Phillips Arena ^ 8/03 - Newark, Prudential Center * 8/04 - Newark, Prudential Center ^ * Performing "Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite" and "Embrya"

I will be very interested in seeing if he can fill the seats again. Its been what, 3 years since the first album which was supposed to be part of a trilogy? And he is still only performing old material? Weird. His reappearance was somewhat novel and exciting in 08, but I don't know that it will have that same affect this time around. But we'll see, I wish him luck.

I'm not mad he is coming to Newark again, but he should stay at NJPAC....smaller venue and I could be REAL CLOSE AGAIN like I was in '09. BUT, I gave up on the new album last year, you mean to tell me he is not going to release new songs...ugh "A Man Can't Ride Your Back Unless It's Bent" MLK 4/3/68

He has the voice of his generation. But it will be interesting to see if can sell out the big Staples center for 2 nights. He does have a big fan base here in LA. Hopefully he can come up wit a unique stage act & stop taking Prince's moves.. I wonder why they keep putting back his trilogy of albums. will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

That's what I'd like to know.
Oh....and people sleep on "Embrya".

Embrya is a classic. I like how he switched it up & didn't try to rehash his sound. Its like what Prince did with AWIAD after the mega successful PR..... will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! Me too! Come to San Diego! If it breaks when it bends, U better not put it in!

I think I can get behind that too. It's definitely his most abstract, which is right up my alley.

Of course he can fill the seats. He sold millions of album, there's no way is not able to sold out these venues ...

Have you ever been to the Prudential Center for a musical concert? I'm told that the sound quality is not the best. My son and his father saw Ms. Keys there and they said it was terrible. I have also heard from a few others who saw Sade, that it could have been better. We were all geeked with the news but since I saw him at the PAC before I wish he would go there. I'm really sitting on the fence UGH! "A Man Can't Ride Your Back Unless It's Bent" MLK 4/3/68

American Express presales.
7/20 - Los Angeles, CA @ Staples Center * Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

I'm really sitting on the fence UGH! I've seen a few acts there including Sade, Alicia and R.kelly. No sound problem for me. Sade sounded especially good. So good in fact I found myself wondering was it "memorex". I saw Max at NJPAC and MSG. I preferred NJPAC cuz it's more intimate. So if I had my way I'd def want to see him again at NJPAC. -

I've been to a venue that was half empty.

Maxwell has barely went platinum on each of his albums. That is good. But he is not @ Prince level in sales. To fill up two nights of The Staples center seems iffy to me. Only thing I can think of its not many real soul singers that can really sing out now. So a lot of peeps may miss that & snatch the tickets up... will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! I would go if the ninja was just singing Happy Birthday. That's how bad these popular "singers" are now. If D'Angelo comes my way, I will be at that as well.

I like the idea of an artist performing an entire album during a show.
