I hadn't seen the movie until the 1990's, but the song was played on the radio a lot.

Poor dude was knocked for trying to imitate Bruce Springsteen. He looked like Bruce, dressed like Bruce, sounded like Bruce, and had a black saxophone player like Bruce.

This song was derided as being a knock-off of Springsteen's "She's The One" but I always liked it.

His group was called the Beaver Brown Band. Not sure what that means.
