I respect the fact that Maxwell is a private person and needs to live his life. I understand that he has a love-hate relationship with fame. I even understand that he is a perfectionist. I wish him the MOST success. With that said, THIS IS A BUSINESS. His business plan was to release a trilogy, secure his legacy, and rack up on some dough so he can go back into hiding. Taking forever to release the material is really messing up his business plan. He one of thse artist that had a broad loyal fan base and will get guranteed sales. He just needs to release the material, do whatever engagements, and go back to his life.

it takes a lot of money for a label to release a trilogy nowadays on one artist. The label may not think its worth it. Since Maxwell doesn't have mega sells like The Rolling Stones. Plus he is not an independent artist like Prince & won't be able to reap the full benefits of it. Prince being an independent artist has put millions in his pocket & he use to can release 5 albums a year if he wanted to.

Poor Maxwell can't do that.But like Prince he has developed into a great live performer. Maybe he should go independent when his contract is up. But he hasn't made as much money as Prince has to finance his own releases...

Not saying he lied. But he first started saying this trilogy thing years ago. It still keeps being delayed. So that tells me its the record company..

And he is still only performing old material? Weird. His reappearance was somewhat novel and exciting in 08, but I don't know that it will have that same affect this time around. Totally co-sign...but: I like the idea of him performing two whole albums in their entirety. That sounds quite interesting. If only they´d release this on DVD. And I hope the venues aren´t too big. He´s not that type of musician, a more intimate setting is much better for him.

Some other groups and singers have done this "entire album in one night" thing, and it turned out quite good. I like it.

I never want to say someone lied, but it has seemed very odd to say the least, that his much touted 8 years in the making trilogy began with 36 minutes of music and not a note since. Not a snippet, single, nothing. To be frank, I thought the first album seemed incomplete and not terribly inspired.

I am speculating, I know nothing. But I think Maxwell works sporadically, when he feels like it and/when he wants to make money. This 6 night stand seems like a quick way to make some money. Which is completely fine. I just don't think another album is coming any time soon, I think he'll disappear again.

If this is working for him, that's fine. I really don't think the record company is causing all the delays. He is also someone who has canceled tour dates a fair bit. I think (again, I know nothing) he just drops in and out of public life and work on music and at his own temprement.

Prince's Around The World In A Day was disliked by masses of fans that he acquired after Purple Rain.

Embyra was not massively disliked by Maxwell's fan base - it was just considered a different direction. A better comparison would have been the difference from Parade and Sign O The Times, as neither of those records detracted from Prince's populariry as Embrya did not detract from Max's popularity with the R&B crowd. It was just different in comparison. SOTT was different in comparison to Parade. ATWIAD was different but not well-liked at the time and considered a failure follow-up. ATWIAD is not a "classic" but SOTT is.

I didn't say ATWIAD was liked massively. I said Prince switched it up after PR.He didn't care if it was liked or not. He just made it for his fans & artistically.It was not for the new after PR fans that came afterwards. Don't misquote me! Even though it did produce two more masterpiece hits for him..

Your also wrong on Embrya it was a classic but it was not well liked. In fact it was considered a failure & put a hard hit on Maxwell's career. Until R Kelly saved him & wrote a massive hit for him called "Fortunate"(His biggest hit to date) Which was not on any of those albums & brought him back to the limelight..

This rumor was cirulating for his 8 year hiatus. Which Maxwell denied emphatically. There is no evidence of this whatsover, not then, and not now. Maxwell has not shown himself to be steadily working on music, and dying to release it. THis is not a Qtip Kamal the Abstract situation, as I see it. When artists are being held up by their companies, if they are passionate about getting their music out, they usually speak on it at minimum. Maxwell has never done this.

Its fine if he doesnt have anything, there is no need to place "blame" on him or a music label. But in terms of the reason why his output is so irregular, I see no evidence that it is not all about him.

Yeah, about 7 years ago, word on the street was Maxwell was gay and that is why Sony wouldn't put out his shit-he was talking about homosexuality on them

I believe it's more of record label politics- not so much about content, because in interviews he pretty much laid out what each record was suppose to be about.

ActuallY Tank is a very sought after successful songwriter & producer. He has written for artist like Jamie Foxx(His very close friend & sound a like),AAliyah,Dave Hollister,Marques Houston,Omarion,Donell Jones & Monica to name a few,,
