c'mon now... this is ridiculous. michael was not satanic. saying michael got his talents with a deal from satan is absolutly RIDICULOUS! michaels talents were a gift from GOD! i mean come on! are people really that dumb! michael has been singing and dancing since he was 5! you mean to tell me that michael made a deal with satan when he was a child?

that is a dumb post.

Does anybody know why the music video for Smooth Criminal has an extra line (when he's climbing the stairs) and it's not on the album version? confused

I've been wondering about that for 20 years.

My theory is that Smooth Criminal was filmed while the album was still being worked on, just like Bad, since Bad in the video is a little different too from how it turned out on the album, and later the reissue with less horns. So maybe last minute, Smooth Criminal was chopped up to fit on the record.

I've been wondering about that for 20 years.

I always figured they edited it down to fit the album also. And since SC in moonwalker was the ultra extended version he put it in - it is in the liner notes of the LP as well.

But even so, on the extended version of the single, that verse is not there

The film was shot months before the album was released they most likely edited. He filmed Smooth Criminal in March-April '87 and the Bad album was released later that August

MJ talked about his relationship with God in "The Michael Jackson Tapes" by Rabbi Shmuley Boteach (although the intent to release that book is rubbish IMO)

If there was any "deal" it was about him being put to a test after Thriller happened, both his blessing and curse. He had too much to deal with since and was so strong with inner strength through it all, and I've found that and how he talks about that easily inspiring.

Last summer......a couple of songs leaked, either in full or snippets

Slave To The Rhythm

snippets of the original demo of Hollywood Tonight (dated maybe 1998-99)

snippets of People Of The World

snippets of I Am A Loser

snippets of Black Widow (fake)

Burn Tonight (fake)

Ready 2 Win (fake)

there were other songs (mostly stuff submitted by Eddie Cascio and James Porte) and honestly, NONE of them were anything to call home about lol

and the matter of HOW these were obtained.....let's just say afterwards, those people responsible got into BIG trouble....I'm talkin' JAIL trouble neutral

Thank You.. I 've heard all of these, except for "Ready 2 Win" - which I heard a brief snippet of.. not really worth my time. I can't wait to hear all of "People Of The World" (thought the j-friends version sounded great) and "I Am A Loser".

I'd also like the untouched "Hollywood Tonight" - I think it's a classic song, but terribly overproduced. I'd like the original "Behind The Mask", too.

"Slave To The Rhythm" is the one song I do hope they'll finish.. there wasn't much going on instrumentally in the leaked version.

Half-assed as "MICHAEL" was, I can't wait for the next album.. I know it'll be much better. I really want to hear some more stuff from "Dangerous" onward, because I'm already content with the music he released up to "Bad", but from the 1990s on, most of his dance songs were all attacking the media. I'd love some more carefree songs, like those on "Off The Wall", but more modern sounding.

[Edited 2/9/12 21:48pm]

The original demo of Hollywood Tonight sounds very HIStory era-ish

The song originally was done in 1997-98

The backlash started right around the time the 1984 Grammy and American Music Awards appearance, although the rumors of him having a sex change, being gay, taking female hormones or talks that he was selling out for "white success" were going around during those days

OMG, this IS totally untouched!!! I know for sure, cause I got the usual MJ chills and excitement I used to get over new songs and/or leaks. Though I like Hollywood Tonight on Michael and was into it right away, it felt way better this time, even better than the video version too! This is 100 percent Michael, please tell me I'm right! I think this would have been a late 90's hit, and sounded good alongside something like Return of the Mack though there is no comparison

Yes I'm aware of the press conference he had to put on to counter these rumors and to address his young fans at the time.

I think 1998 was a time when he was REALLY focused on the music

People Of The World

I Am A Loser

Hollywood Tonight

Beautiful Girl

Blue Gangster

Children's Holiday

A Place With No Name

Break Of Dawn (I think this is from the 1998 sessions)

I can only imagine what else was worked on during this period. 1979, 1985, 1989-90, 1998 and 2008-09 are the periods I'm most interested in

I played it again and can't stop smiling and moving my body smile THIS is the michael I love! It also made me think a little bit of my favourite N Sync song at the time Tearing Up My Heart but way better. I guess these are all in the same scale that's why. I want to hear a demo in full one day, it's wayyyyy better than the Michael version.

The leaks that happened in protest of "Breaking News" and "Michael sounded better than half of the album lol

Man, he really should have come back in 1999, I know he was supposed to. I got the same excitement too with Do You Know Where Your Children Are. Blue Gangsta was just okay to me.

I remember when Invincible was supposed to be released in Winter '99. That album had so many planned release dates neutral I'm not surprised it was such a mixed bag when it finally came. When it first was released, I loved it but as time went on, My opinion changed, but right before he died, I took the time to really listen to his catalog again. I'm talking, sitting down and truly LISTENING to the albums and outtakes, I gained a better appreciation for it. There are things I don't like about it (the cover, the overproduction, The Lost Children, Cry, and Heartbreaker being on the album....especially the Lost Children lol )

It's not Off The Wall or Dangerous but it has merits and I LOVE Don't Walk Away and Butterflies

I remember all the release dates from 99 to 2001. One of the release dates ended up being the date of Janet's All For You release and a date was set a month before that too, around the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Oxford speech time. I had a friend I lost touch with back then who was telling me all about her experience going to Carnegie Hall, so it was really exciting though I wanted music too and was soooo hyper over him all year, it was probably at an all time high. But when it came out, the first listen surprised me and I knew it wasn't like Thriller or Bad or even BOTDF though maybe Dangerous, though there were a bunch of tracks that I loved right away too. The second listen was much better and I played the album on heavy rotation for over a year, maybe two. I felt it was diverse and he sounded really good vocally and it helped me appreciate his more r&b side too with that and the MSG concerts leading me to finally buying the Jacksons and Jackson 5 albums though I'd known the popular singles for years, and being even more surprised.

I also remember being REALLY disappointed in the special editions. I remember the original tracklistings for them and then apparently Michael pulled a lot of the vault material off and we got just a couple of demos and Quincy Jones interviews lol

I was disappointed that Dangerous had no addtional tracks though I was ecstatic with the 2002 leaks, and heard Xscape months before it was posted online. I bought them all anyways despite already owning most of them already (Thriller on cassette and original Bad & Dangerous on CD at thet ime). I was really impressed with Shout that year, everything about that track is amazing. Those lyrics gave me chills, and that little girl needs to listen to it.

I bought Bad first, then Thriller, then Off The Wall, and Dangerous last (I had just bought the regular edition just a couple of months prior lol )

I was in 7th grade and Wherehouse Music was just 5 blocks away (although you had to go down a hill), left school at 3:15, bypassed the bus to get home to buy the Bad special edition for $14.99

I was at the store the other day and saw it brand new for $10 and The Collection boxset for $29
