Not sure if this is well known, it was new to me at least.
Derek Bramble left Heatwave during the Current sessions, and was given a lifeline by Rod, Derek went to stay with Rod in germany...
From he linear notes of the 2010 reissue of Current by Heatwave (the bbr remasters are excellent btw):
"We began writing songs. I was in the next room when he wrote Thriller", he says, "In fact we wrote a song together that was due to be recorded for the Thriller album called Spice of Life. They started recording it but then decided they had enough tracks. My song was last in and first out!"
what a great song ....reminds me of Baby be mine alittle bit but a great song indeed , I like it
I guess we can add this record to the demos for Thriller. Good to know MJ recorded the song. I like it also |

We don't know that MJ recorded a vocal, it might just be that Quincy had the musicians start recording proper parts for the songs and then they decided not to go any further with it. |
