Poor thing. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really donĀ“t like the idea that he could have it all."

Well shit. See, that shit right there was an omen. If I were Mike, I would've bowed out gracefully or made a mental note to ease up on the Soul Glo. Honey, stop talking and just create the music.

Well the first time, the material of the jacket melted into his back...

If anything, it should've a mental note from Greasmai---i mean, Jermaine "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Why did that man have to suffer so much?? It's just not fair! The salvation of man is through love and in love. - Dr. V. Frankl

If that had happened to him he would've been an human blow torch.

One would think on a commercial venture - Sony would have the last say as they are the company releasing the discs. "I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"

In the end, Epic/Sony are the ones with the last say "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I have read the book and like you don't feel it's an overly sensationalised book. I'm sure many of the fans disputing things have their own bias against the Cascio's but really there is nothing in there that makes the book a must read - no outlandish claims to get huge publicity.
When taken for what it is, a memoir of a relationshiop it holds up. Like Jermaine's book, it might at times overstate his importance and influence (or maybe not) but you have to remember this is his story - so of course he is going to interperate things through his eyes and his own justifications.
What is sad is that at various points it appears MJ was on track, and had beaten any over reliance on pain medication, then either through work pressure (or pressure he put on himself) he retreated to them. It's a human weakness we all suffer from, we all escape to something or someone to make us feel better - nothing to be vilified just understood.
If you are looking for a good MJ book its worth a read, but I wouldn't necessarily put it ahead of something like Man In The Music as a must read.

Like all things these days, you have to take it all with a grain of salt. I'm sure if it was severe enough MJ would have been treated (and press coverage) and also in his bio MJ would have stated it. It could be a situation where the outer garment began to melt, but there was no physical damage to Michael. "I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"

Yeah that sounds outrageous to believe...

There was a lot of stuff Michael didn't say in his bio.

Exactly. Besides, Jeff worked alongside MJ a lot in those years. Here's what he said when I asked about MJ's reaction to the melting jacket
I don't know specifically except that it had happened just before we made our way backstage to the set. I found out a little bit later. It wasn't treated as a big deal - just that the sequins had melted under the lights, and the burn was superficial. However, after the accident it quickly became an interesting thing that those who had been there talked about.

That is interesting. | |

That's what happened. Some of the sequins on the back of the jacket began to melt "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Man I can't even imagine how to feel if sequins from my jacket just melted and then whatever melted got into my back permanently. Michael truly had to endure a lot of pain. He bled for his art literally!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
it didn't burn him
He was standing too close to something, and the sequins on the jacket started to melt, that's all "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Ah OK. Then that ain't that bad lol

Maybe I am ignorant or foggy, but what else has Frank said to Roger besides showing him receipts? Before this or after this? What is he leaving out of the book? I'm thinking about it again and though a lot of it works in MJ's favour too, it does sometimes look like he's trying to hide something, like cover up his own actions that went wrong, but leaving out more of it, and coming off as someone protecting MJ and protecting himself. I cried towards the end a lot though when things were going bad for MJ and when he passed :*(

Yes - but he was up front and detailed about the Pepsi incident was all I was saying - so if there was an earlier incident he would have mentioned it.
It appears a few sequens on the outside of the jacket melted. There would be 3 layers between the sequins and MJ's bare skin - going from sequins / outer jacket material / inner jacket lining or material, and then whaterever t-shirt MJ was wearing beneath it. "I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I love how we assume he's always wearing a t-shirt under without thinking about it first, like it's second nature for him

Remember when Roger was so gung ho that the Cascio songs were real and there was video proof that it was Michael?
I wonder whatever happened to those videos....

Video? You mean the studio snapshots on Oprah with no one standing there?

As if MJ would've ever set foot in that janky ass lookin "studio" with Salvation Army couch cushions and a mic ducktaped to the ceiling. "That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide."
