hey everyone i just wanted 2 share some cool images that were taking off of second life. today i was fortunate 2 witness somes friends online put on a DAZZLING interperation of the "this is it" concert as it would have taken place. 4 those that don't know what secondlife is, it's a virtual 3D world and there are avatars that can act and do cool things. there are "concerts" on SL and some are just stiff but this perfomance is the BEST CONCERT I HAVE EVER SEEN ON THERE. the dancers moved 2 the music just like how MJ would have done.

HIStory for sure! but can we really count Destiny as MJ album?

I have mixed feelings towards BAD album. I feel as if some people think MJ was so unmistakable during the 80's and because BAD is such a great album overall, they ignore how bad (in a bad way!) those two songs actually are!? He should've replaced them with Fly Away with Street Walker razz

But I think that's the bad part about getting to know all the unreleased songs for me. I used to think the album was perfect and that's really as good as it gets, and then I listened to some unreleased songs and...I'm not so sure anymore. The same thing happens with Prince's bootleg materials lol.

Bad isn't my favorite album of his but I think it was perfect as it was released. I don't think Streetwalker and Fly Away would've made it any better. Fly Away is nice but not nearly as dramatic or original as Liberian Girl, love it or hate it. And I personally like Streetwalker more than Speed Demon, but it's way too similar to The Way You Make Me Feel to be on the same album.

Liberian Girl is pure genius. The biggest black artist in the world at the peak of his fame writing a song dedicated to African beauty... Big statement. Who had even heard of Liberia before that song? I hadn't.

Speed Demon is a fantastic comment on racism and intolerance. Fantastic political record.

what i meant to say was...

plus liberian girl features some utterly astonishing vocals. this is a first rate record... and speed demon, well that's just some funky shit. those layered rhythm tracks and synth bass. never mind the larry williams synth. it's just fonk. no way streetwalker and fly away beat these two

I really like Fly Away - think Mike's vocals are other-worldly on the intro. But if it was a choice between that and LGirl there's no comparison. Anytime Mike references his African heritage it's ALRIGHT with me smile

Best way to start is looking for official remixes and extended mixes. They're the easiest to find, although after Bad, it's gonna be A LOT to sort through

then outtakes and demos biggrin

I'm actually doing a list to keep my list up to date

Not all of MJ's stuff had extended versions as far as I know. You might have to shop around for extended versions of certain singles. There is a Bad remix compilation that was released in 1987-88, which is highly recommended. The Visionary box set from 2006 is a nice Epic-era singles compilation that collects most of MJ's important singles, complete with artwork and Dualdisc videos. It's OOP now, but if you ever find it, it's a nice one to have.
