Great work on that by the way. I wouldn't have the patience these days, but I'm sure it'll be amazing when complete. I don't even think 'The Work' is fully comprehensive for Prince as I've found a few things along the way that aren't included.

I LOVE the I Want You Back The Unreleased Masters, particularly the alternate versions of ABC and Dancing Machine. Listen to them all the time.

Lucky Day was released in 2009 so I was kinda iffy about releasing it. I STILL don't know how so many people seemed excited about I Want You Back The Unreleased Masters but it didn't make an impact on the charts. It should've atleast peaked in the top 10.

It's one of the best compilations Motown has released in the last 35 years. People should've bought it more mad

I was kinda unsure about Twenty Five Miles and One Day I'll Marry You either due to them being released on Boogie and Looking Back At Yesterday

I Just Can't Stop Loving You with the intro was released on the first pressing so i wasn't sure about that one either

i had questions about posting some of this stuff too (since a lot of them WERE official releases) but yeah... i saw some of the stuff you posted were released either officially (on some offshoot or special later release), so i figured, well, i'll post a few as well.

the unreleased masters is a great collection! those tracks are gems. motown missed out many times. 'listen i'll tell you how' is PHENOMENAL! people underestimate their work with bobby taylor (who got phased out by gordy. grrrrrrrrr...). and of course, 'buttercup'. i always drool (for lack of a better word) over a STEVIE michael combination...

i was thinking of including 'if i don't love you this way' (the alternate version) but this was also officially released in 1987. i love that version better than the 'dancing machine' version. the strings are lush, and the brothers don't actually sing on it.

yeah, 'one day i'll marry you' was on 'boogie' (i would LOVE to find that on vinyl! (good luck to me... ironically, the natural resources label was catered to rock, but they put 'boogie' on it. i have 'boogie' on CD, though)). 'twenty-five miles' ended up on the same collection as 'if i don't love you this way'- the original soul of michael jackson. i hate the way these collections remixed these tracks, but they seemed to have left 'if i don't love you...' untarnished, unfortunately.

i put 'i just can't stop loving you' for your collection, since i figured that many people have not heard it, as i'm not sure many peple own the vinyl (or first edition CDs of it). it could also be similar to the first editions of HIStory, with 'they don't care about us'. i have all of these on vinyl, so it's always interesting to hear later edited versions.

i thought 'looking back to yesterday' was an interesting collection as well (i have a german tamla/motown pressing of it). but i think the anthology/collection put out in 1995 is the best edition of those songs. some of the 'looking back...' stuff is also remixed, i believe. the anthology is something i would really LOVE on vinyl! i haven't seen anything about it being released in that format though.

the worst thing motown could have ever done was release that 'farewell my summer love' collection. straight garbage! the remixes were HORRENDOUS! the poster inside is nice though. it's on my wall.

[Edited 3/21/11 2:30am]

Do you have Hello World? All the original mixes of the songs from Farewell My Summer Love are included and the original mix of the title track is FAR SUPERIOR than the 1984 remix. Have you heard the "Jackson 5 Motown Medley" that was the second B-side for the single. It's pretty standard but a fan track

The songs included are I Want You Back/The Love You Save/Dancing Machine/ABC/I'll Be There

You're right. I deleted The Work off my harddrive when I tracked down Revelations 2.1 biggrin

The alternate version of Dancing Machine on I Want You Back The Unreleased Masters is great, I took the original version off my iPod and kept that mix lol

My favorites from the set is Buttercup, Lucky Day, and Love Call. The version of Love Call that I had prior was a completely different vocal take. They recorded it in 1970 and then re-recorded it in 1971 or 72. The 1972 take is on the set and it took me awhile to get used to it.

Yeah the I Want You Back!: Unreleased Masters compilation was such a badass compilation and I hope more like this is eventually released in the future.

The alternate version of "Dancing Machine" nearly overshadows the original, in terms of funk and groove.

okay! so a crazy thing happened to me today... i was just hanging out after work, and i get a (work-related) e mail, and it is from a woman seeing if i was still working there. she mentioned that she was an admirer of the michael dolls i always bring with me to work, and she wanted to coordinate her schedule with mine so that she could see the dolls. woah...

here are the dolls i have:

https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&ik=5832b5ac2f&view=att&th=12edb6d33961822b&attid=0.1&disp=inline&realattid=f_glk7scq10&zw

yes, i do take the dolls to work with me... i used to take all of them but i only take a few at a time these days. so this story gets even better...

i get ready to leave, and i am told by a co-worker that this woman is asking for me. "she wants to know where the MJ fan is" my co-worker says to me. i walk up to this woman, and she tells me she wants me to look at some videos. i ask her which ones. she tells me we need to step outside. so i do. she gets in her trunk and busts out this box, and hands me 12 VIDEOCASSETTES OF ALL MICHAEL STUFF. she asks me if i am satisfied. i'm more in shock than anything. i have seen this woman around, but i don't know her at all. she told me she also has books and that she is going to keep some of them, but she wants to give me books too.

i mean, nine of these are the SIX-HOUR tapes... some of this stuff i already have (like 'thriller', the dangerous collection and 'the legend continues'). there's stuff on the 6-hour tapes i have too... but WOW! some of the stuff on these tapes are:

-'she's out of my life' (the video)

-the 'MTV 10' stuff

-the sammy davis jr. tribute

-the pepsi commercials

-the ebony/jet interviews

-the full film version of 'bad'

-friday night videos

-the jacksons: the first family of pop

-the BBC (as opposed to HBO) version of the bucharest show

-the 1980 disney programme

-etc. etc... etc.!

i feel so blessed right now, that someone was kind enough to even think of me to give me this stuff... i have to find a way to repay this woman.

and THEN, this little girl was happily pointing at one of the dolls. i walked up to her and began to talk to her, but in the 'doll' voice. she lit up so much! she asked why little michael was only wearing one mitten. i said it's because it was special, and it's used for stuff like singing. little michael extended his hand out to her, and she shook it. it was definitely one of my favourite moments of the day.

i just thought i would share all these things with you. the craziness of life sometimes happens in small incidents.

So we know MJ/Jacksons recorded a shit load of music over at Motown, but will we ever see the release of these? Were there any albums that were shelved? (excluding the J5/Stevie record) I know they were worked like slaves over at Motown

Awhile ago, I did a count of all the songs that have been released

Of the 469 songs, Motown has released about 210 of them. They still have a great deal of material in there. What they need to do is release a 8 CD boxset of the hits (you know they're always going to be included), outtakes, demos, studio chatter, and alternate mixes.

Soulsation was a GREAT set (I had it on cassette and CD) but I hope they do an expanded follow up

Well Marlon recorded an album in 1972 or '73, and so did Tito (I think) but they were shelved. They need to reissue all of Jermaine's solo Motown stuff. The Jackson brothers were very prolific during their tenture at Motown.

i get ready to leave, and i am told by a co-worker that this woman is asking for me.

-etc. etc... etc.!

i feel so blessed right now, that someone was kind enough to even think of me to give me this stuff... i have to find a way to repay this woman.

and THEN, this little girl was happily pointing at one of the dolls. i walked up to her and began to talk to her, but in the 'doll' voice. she lit up so much! she asked why little michael was only wearing one mitten. i said it's because it was special, and it's used for stuff like singing. little michael extended his hand out to her, and she shook it. it was definitely one of my favourite moments of the day.

i just thought i would share all these things with you. the craziness of life sometimes happens in small incidents.

okay! so a crazy thing happened to me today... i was just hanging out after work, and i get a (work-related) e mail, and it is from a woman seeing if i was still working there. she mentioned that she was an admirer of the michael dolls i always bring with me to work, and she wanted to coordinate her schedule with mine so that she could see the dolls. woah...

here are the dolls i have:

That's what I'm hoping for. I'm surprised Motown haven't released anything MJ related these past few months.

They'd rather release the usual hits again neutral They released ELEVEN compilations in the first year after Michael's passing

The Stripped Mixes (July 2009) (Worldwide)

Mellow Michael Jackson (July 2009) (Japan)

Soul Source: The Best Of The Jackson 5 Remixes (July 2009) (Japan)

Michael Jackson and The Jackson 5 The Early Years (The Sunday Age Edition) (July 2009) (Australia)

The Definitive Collection (August 2009) (USA)

Michael Jackson: The Early Years (Barnes And Noble Exclusive) (August 2009) (USA)

The Remix Suite (September 2009) (Worldwide)

I Want You Back: The Unreleased Masters (September 2009) (Worldwide)

J Is For Jackson 5 (March 2010) (USA)

The Jackson 5 Live At The Forum (June 2010) (USA)

Remixes (June 2010) (Japan)

and only 2 released some form of unreleased material neutral

Motown is still finishing up big compilations/deluxe edition sets for the Supremes (final lineup), the Contours and Marvin. lol
