Listening to tracks from "Like a Prayer", I forget how consistent of a pop song craftmaker Madonna was. I remembered when "Keep It Together" was played on R&B stations when I was attending kindergarten. lol

I hit the big time but I still get the blues

everyone's a stranger, city life can get to you

People can be so cold, never want to turn your back

just giving to get something, always wanting something back

love the lyrics

The Blonde Ambition tour (LAP) was also no joke. Went from doing stadiums of True Blue tour back to arenas where you could actually SEE her. This was my first live show I caught from her.

That Keep It Together mentioned was a wink to Sly Stone.

Hell, even the Rolling Stone interview for this release was her best at that time ..maybe even till this day.

So we got patchoulli

adult themed songs

great pop tunes and dramatic awesome videos (Oh Father, Express Yourself, LAP)

The ballhyhooed Prince duet

The LAP video controversy

The Pepsi commerical that was pulled after five minutes

The great tour that brought us Truth Or Dare

Some of her best vocal chops on wax

Madonna being considered a serious arttist by her once staunch critics

.

who agrees with this? I wanna hear from someone who thinks ROL is Madonna's definitive album.I love this discussion lol

confused Are you ignoring me? lol I think Ray of Light is her definitive album (by a long shot, actually).

have you ever actually explained why? lol

i think ray of light is good, solid overall, but to me there are some definite filler tracks!!!

drowned word - i swear i have never understood the hype on this one. it's a good mood setter but when she named a tour after it, opened the show with it, friends of mine who hated madonna before were 'turned' by that song...my dad loves it...idk...i don't get it

nothing really matters - imo, the weakest of the upbeat tracks on there. never had a desire to hear this one in concert. it has 4 notes in it, and she wasted her first grammy performance on that mess. the bridge is weak (and bridges are a madge specialty!)

little star - gag me, i can't do this one

mer girl - lyrics are cool, but what a muddled mess of a track

that said, i luuuurve candy perfume girl, swim, shanti and the power of goodbye...frozen and ray of light are so played out to me...sky fits heaven and to have and not to hold also kick major ass

I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

"Drowned World/Substitute For Love" is quite possibly, the best song that Madonna has ever done.I was listening to it yesterday on my iPod and after all these years,it still blows me away.Just an amazing song!

It's her best album because there isn't any filler IMO. The Orbit sounds give it a cohesiveness her other albums don't have and it's the strongest collection of songs she's ever released. Lyrically, this is definitely the best Madonna album. I love that she reached a point she could release a song like "Little Star," which is so unabashedly full of love without being cheesy. "Mer Girl" is so morbid and vivid -- what a way to close it out. It definitely leaves a mark. I find "Nothing Really Matters" to be hypnotic; it certainly isn't filler to me. "The Power of Good-Bye" is my favorite Madonna song ever. "Drowned World/Substitute for Love," "Ray of Light," "Frozen," "Swim," "Skin," "To Have and Not to Hold"... those are some of the best individual songs she's done, but as a group they make an artistic statement unlike any other she's attempted. In short, the individual parts are awesome, but the whole package is even better.

Compare that to LAP, where there are some great singles and strong album tracks, but nothing really rises to the level of "Oh Father." No contest IMO.

I remember buying 'Ray Of Light' the day it was released and spending that entire day listening to it over and over and over and over (lol).I fell in love with it! It was unlike anything that Madonna had done before.I was mesmerized by it.This album features her most impressive vocals, her strongest songwriting, and amazing production by William Orbit.I can certainly see why many fans consider it her greatest work.

uh? Hard Candy, man

Music is her most random, so-so cover but not the worst, in fact, it matches the sound/feel/production of the album...

'Music' is nice....a very edgy, experimental album that takes electronica into some exciting directions. It's not her best work by any means but it was cool to see her trying new beats and sounds, instead of repeating herself.

Highlights: title track,Impressive Instant,Gone,Don't Tell Me,What It Feels Like For A Girl,Paradise (Not For Me) music

yep nod cool

back in the day, American Life disappointed the hell out of me because she just followed the pattern of the lesser tracks of Music (specially I Deserve It, Nobody's Perfect), but using a cheap electroclash sound, completely erasing the fresh pop/rock/pseudo-country sound of Music. Bad bad sequel, bad singles, bad image, bad lyrics, bad vibe, bad timing lol

Ok.

You're starting to wear me down. "To Have and Not To Hold," "Skin," "CPG," "Swim," this listen of "NRM" - starting to get where you're coming from.

I still hate "Little Star!"

I think Music is one of her worst albums. Half of it sounds like Ray of Light retreads, and I really don't think there are any exceptional songs on it. The only albums of hers I like less than it are I'm Breathless, Evita and Hard Candy.
