Thoughts?

That list is horrible. Elvis should be lower. Madonna should be lower. Frank Sinatra should be only slightly lower. Marilyn Monroe is fine. The Beatles should be higher. Michael Jackson should be higher. Princess Diana should be higher. That list is all kinds of wrong.

Of course, this is all based on personal preference.

Why should Diana be higher? She was only famous because she married someone with wealth and fame. Elvis and Madonna did things for themselves and created something through their own hard work.

Marilyn Monroe is an icon more because she was a victim and died young and not because of her actual work.

I've always found Oprah Winfrey very overrated so I would put her lower.

Everybody's personal lists would be slightly different or similar in some way due to everyone's unique, personal perspective. Who's to say who's list is correct or incorrect? If it's your list, you're going to likely think your list is correct. If it's not your list, you're likely going to think it's incorrect. Such is the way of human thinking! LOL.

Honestly i would take Paul Newman off, though i think hes great, no way on this list. The Beatles should be way higher than 8, the Beatles behind Oprah??? Jesus christ already to me the Beatles are 2 easily, screw Madonna, she is 10 or 9 Frankie, hes cool but way too high, and Princess Di, again, i wouldnt have her on the list.

I don't know why yal are tryin to come for Diana.

The public liked her and admired her for the good that she contributed. Billions of people just don't sit around to watch anybody's funeral. The woman had a following, forget how she got it. The point is she had one. Many felt she used her bully pulpit for positivity only later to be destroyed by that same celebrity.

I like the list, it doesn't matter who's #1, the list is accurate but:

Marilyn Monroe is a bigger icon than Madonna. So is Michael. I agree with Elvis being number one though. Elvis and Marilyn are the two most identifiable stars of all time. Michael was number 3 even when he was alive so now that hes dead it should be acknowledged. Madonna and Beatles should be 4th and 5th. The rest of the list are much more debatable.

Not quite but I commend Magic for all of that. I think thatruth meant Michael Jordan.

I love Magic, I grew up watching him play, I met him before, and you're right about all the above mentioned and he help put the NBA back on the map in the 80s.

But as far as pop culture is concern, Timmy was right, I was talking about Michael Jordan. MJ took the NBA to another level.

He should be on the list because everybody knows who Michael Jordan was even if you didn't follow sports that much, love him or hate him.

If you're talking about an athlete whose has great importance in history that transcends sports, then the list has it absolutely correct with Muhammad Ali (my personal hero).

Michael Jordan was and still is apart of pop culture, Air Jordan shoes, Gatorade, Wheaties, guys in the NBA wear long baggy shorts now because of MJ. Kobe and Lebron or any other great NBA player today is being compared to MJ.

Michael should be #1. Probably tied with Elvis, I guess. Michael has inspired so much, it's almost too difficult to document. Every artist on the scene since the late 80s onwards takes something from his legacy/music/anything. Not every artist is inspired by Elvis in that way, despite his mega fame. Marilyn is more iconic for her look and being the quintessential old Hollywood icon as well as that hidden personality/brain. The rest, eh, except the Beatles. MJ, Elvis, Monroe, Beatles - no one else can compete with any of them and the legacy they left behind.

I don't think Princess Diana should be on that list at all - she was not "pop culture". She was not in the performing arts in any way, shape or form.

If anything, she'd be in a different class akin to "World Leader" or "World Figure". Not pop culture.

I'd remove Paul Newman and Muhammed Ali too . . . they were both outstanding in their respective fields, but weren't "icons".

As short as his career was, James Dean would fit this list better than Newman.

Elizabeth Taylor should be on there!
