The Beatles beat him in influence as well. Michael Jackson was one of the artists they influenced, not the other way around.

Seriously though, you have no proof of this. You also never be able to produce any, because no proof of this claim exists. When you actually do find something, I will be here waiting and I will admit you to be right, but I'm not holding my breath.

Good luck.

The Beatles cut their teeth on Motown songs. And almost every Motown legend has sang a Beatles song. But were the Jackson 5 influenced by them? The answer is no. They had way too much going on around them, plus they were pop sensations in the middle of the Vietnam war. Michael sang "Come Together", put Sean in "Moonwalker" and bought the publishing.

Musically, I don't think The Beatles influenced MJ.

Stylistically, they absolutely did - especially the Sgt. Pepper-inspired military outfits that became his wardrobe staple.

Michael Jackson doesn't even belong in the Top 10. The only reason he is considered an icon is because of his death. Prior to his death, nobody cared about him, except for Jordan Chandler, Jason Francia, Gavin Arvizo, Ed Munoz, and several other people who Jackson fans hate.

This has to be THE the stupidest, most asinine comment that I've seen here on the Org, and believe me, I've seen a few doozies. Seriously, this comment qualifies you for handicapped parking. Michael Jackson not qualified to be in the top ten of a pop icon list? Are you mad? The only thing I can say is, maybe you're just too young to know any better. Sad.

wacky

I can't tell if you're trolling, mad, or too young to be surfing the internet.

PMonster definently qualifies for the dumb, stupid, ignorant, mentally "not with it" award. Even if this person is the most moronic hater in the world, its rantings about Michael not deserving to be in the Top Ten would be laughable. Out of all the people that a person could list, Michael would deserve to be in the TOP FIVE. Michael is as influential or more than either Elvis, Beatles, or anyone else in music history. Ironically, people like PMonster know that and that is the very reason that idiots like him/her were/are so threatened by Michael Jackson.

IMO, Michael Jackson is the Number ONE Icon of the past 50 years because:

1. He was a very popular child star whose success became even bigger as an adult and that popularity basically never waivered (even with all the shit he went through and the media manipulation of his image) in FORTY-FIVE years.

2. No other artist in history has influenced EVERY generation, race, creed, color, society(that includes the Beatles, ELvis and any other pop icon) the way that Michael Jackson did and on the GLOBAL and popularity scale that he did. There is no one that can even come close. We will NEVER see the type of popularity, success and complete domination of pop culture that Michael achieved again.

3. Tie all of the things listed above with Michael's incredible and unbeatable success on the charts/sales. No one has done what he has.

4. No other artist in history has had the CONTINUED(over 40 years) of influence over every generation as Michael has. I have never seen an artist who is just as influential with children(they LOVE his music) as he is with their parents, grandparents, etc. and this was BEFORE he died.

5. Michael's catalogue was still outselling the aforementioned artists BEFORE he died and to this day continue to outsell the Beatles and Elvis.

6. Michael's GLOBAL influence, popularity is unrivaled. THe Beatles, Elvis can't compare to him even with all of the media manipulation in their favor.

7. There will never be another Michael Jackson and no one will top him in popularity, influence and overall Iconic status. Michael Jackson IS the #1 Pop Culture Icon of ALL TIME.

call me a fool, but shouldn't this be in the michael jackson sticky? I mean it is 14 pages of MJ banter. When there is no banter the threads are locked with a friendly note saying take it to the MJ sticky... but yet there is some inconsistency here....I guess rules and regulations only apply to certain members

Nah, the thread was created to discuss various pop icons, and, though Michael happens to be one of them, he's not the only one.
