I don't have any issues with you, actually with nobody, at least in the Music:Non Prince forum. the only forums of the org where the trolls are nowhere to be found (so far)

my only problem with you is that, many times, you just post many wtf things without any trace of irony or sense of humor shrug

I made that Osama suggestion because I consider him an evil pop culture icon, but you can tell that PERHAPS I was joking; but with your posts, it's clear that you're not joking. You say that the Beatles are overrated and their name tossed around with a STRAIGHT face (or a straight writing style for that matter) and at the same time, you want us to take you seriously neutral

that's my only "issue" with you, other than that I think your nice...

please believe me, even if I do joke on here, which I have, people will take it like its serious lol , and bring up something I said from 2004 (yes people remember stuff that far back). They would get on me more if I joked then if I was serious.

Its just my opinion about the Beetles, its not that serious for anyone to insult or get bent over, I make comments based on what I feel or think, and I don't even think my comments are that important anyways... wink

You have to admit the Beetles were pretty popular in the music world though, right Alisa?

It's like saying Ronald Reegan wasn't that much of a hit with conservative Republicans in the 80s.

Michael is arguably THE most famous person of all time in pop culture. I've met people who either don't know who the Beatles were or know who they were but couldn't tell you one of their songs...

I've never met a single person who doesn't know who Michael is and can't tell you one of his songs. His influence was truly global. So he's #1 on my list.

And there's no way Madonna should ever be higher than Michael on any iconic list or musical talent list....lol

I'm gonna throw a wild card into the list. Assuming we're not just limited to actual people.... Bart Simpson.

Now he fits the bill of being a pop culture icon.

Osama is an interesting choice, Joe. I personally wouldn't consider him to be part of "pop culture".

Ditto.

I don't know a single person who isn't as familiar with the Beatles biggest hits as they are Michael's. The Beatles were over and done by the time I was born, and yet I still know "I Wanna Hold Your Hand," "Yesterday," "She Loves You," "Hey Jude," "Revolution," "Money Can't Buy Me Love." And not because I'm a fan and went looking for any of it either...but, rather, because the songs are so iconic in pop culture that the only way for it to make sense for me to have not heard of them would be if I spent most of my life in a coma.

Let's just be real here: these lists are about whose work/image/likeness the average Joe has at least fleeting familiarity with first, and impact second. "Merit" or "talent" (which, BTW, can be so vague that it almost becomes subjective) isn't applicable here.

And to take a stab at why Michael wasn't higher than number five; my guess that one of the bigger reasons could be because the last fifteen+ years of his life, he became more increasingly identified with scandal and eccentricity than his music.
