I was appalled that Lena's death went largely unheralded. It's a travesty.

I still can't believe it.

Teena Marie. Lady T.

She was the soundtrack to my life. Her music is how I serenaded one of my greatest loves.

I wore out all of her vinyl albums. Then I bought them all again on CD.

It must be magic. I Need Your Lovin'. Square Biz. Yes Indeed. The entire Emerald City album.

She had so much talent, so much soul. I am just glad that I was able to see her live at least once in my life.

Rest In Peace, Lady T. There will never be another like you. sad

They need to cut off 106 & Park and some of these kids are actually in our age group.

I agree. One of my followers on there was all like "who's Teena Marie?" and said something to the effect that she didn't like Rick James after discovering her ties with him. rolleyes

What the hell is going on with Aretha?

Apparently pancreatic cancer. She was released from the hospital earlier this month following surgery.

With regards to Aretha Franklin illness, the average life expectancy of a person diagnosed with that type of cancer is one year or less. confused

And if she had successful surgery on a procedure (though apparently you can't operate on pancreatic cancer), she has a 5% chance of living past 2015 roughly, meaning she'll be 73 by that time.

On her 1984 album, Starchild, Teena paid tribute to her Motown colleague and one of her idols, Marvin Gaye on the fabulous song, "My Dear Mr. Gaye".

And Aretha, I just hope she's able to pull through. pray Teena was supposed to carry the torch from Aretha, Patti and 'em but she went before they did. That's sad, that's like burying a child or burying a younger sibling.

In terms of Motown legends, Teena died before Diana Ross AND Martha Reeves. This equal the sadness of Michael leaving before Smokey Robinson AND Stevie Wonder.

Yep and them both dying so young. I have to say Teena's death is probably all the most shocking for me because she was still touring and working on music. Hell, she was still putting out solid material during her later years. She made a gigantic comeback on the music world back in 2004 when she did the album La Dona and the bomb ever since that release was ticking off. She is definitely one of my musical heroes in the game. Producer, arranger, musician, songwritier...I mean she had the whole music world on lock because it was rare to see females back in the day doing that. Her move from Motown to Epic Records and the drama that surrounded it was just so powerful to me, as she fought for her artistic credibility and rights as an artist. WOW...she was just a marvel.

Conspiracy? The list of music legends dying out within 50-something is getting long:

Teena Marie

Michael Jackson

Barry White

Gerald LeVert

Rick James

Roger Troutman (murdered at age 47)

Luther Vandross

Teddy Pendergrass

Curtis Mayfield

All of THESE^ deaths were within the last 12 years.

Don't blame them or Lil Wayne, and I'm not saying that you are. Blame the press because they have the power to make you or break your image. To add, the older generation aren't educating them on legendary people. My daughter knows who Lena Horne is. She did a report on her in elementary school.
