Prince - just too much dumb shit to name.
R Kelly - no explanation needed. I kinda hate it sometimes because he'll release a song every now and then that I really dig then I hate myself for liking it.
Any female singer that had to get naked to sell records.
Michael Jackson - no explanation needed. I will always own MJ's stuff and i went out and bought the Vision set today but he did a lot of stupid shit.
I realize more and more than I do not want to know anything about the private lives of people's music I listen to.

Quincy Jones- that interview in 2009 with Details.....Q lost a ton of cool points with me. To go in on someone who a)saw you as more of father figure than his own father b)loved you and never talked negatively about you was FUCKED UP and completely called for, especially when it wasn't even 2 months after he died. And to talk about the man's kids. C'mon Q
Teddy Riley- to be mad about people questioning your integrity is one thing, but to call people "sluts" and "f@gs" because they think.....no....they KNOW you're lying just shows how much of an asshole you are.
Trey Songz- his first album is good but then dude couldn't decide if he wanted to be a rapper or a singer. I haven't had any interest in his albums since

Those are the 2 individuals who, no matter what dumb shit they participated in (either dumb shit in general or shit they did just to fuck with people's minds ) I'd let slide
And we ain't even gonna get on Stevie. I'd probably ride for Mr. Wonder if the man walked onstage rockin' KKK uniform. He's my "Ms. Jenkins"

So, I take it, you feel the same way I do about Quincy. When I read that interview, I was like...WTF!! "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

I've always been a fan of him, but after that, my stance has been "Fuck Quincy Jones!" People were on his side "He's right. Michael didn't have no vitiligo, he's speaking the truth" but then it came out that Michael really did vitiligo and possibly lupus and nobody said shit. I've been giving Q the side eye since 2003 so the 2009 interview was just more confirmation for me
plus that new album is squirrel piss [Edited 12/26/10 18:34pm] "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Quincy Jones = World Class Asshole.....he wants to talk about white kids?...Nobody talked about his attraction to mostly white women..aren't all his kids bi-racial..to each his own but that interview was just tacky. If you really loved someone like a son or little brother you would never say those hurtful things especially not in a magazine..whether he believed it to be true or not. And since when do chemical peels make you as white as MJ was? Just ignorant.

prince.....
he has contempt for his rapidly dwindling fanbase.
after getting housequake shut down, going after fans because of avatars, the cease and desist letters, the diss song(p.f.u.n.k.) the youtube debacle..
that's when i said goodbye. i'll still spin the stuff i got and talk about a song every now and then but THAT'S IT. i stopped spending my money on him.

Prince is the first one that comes to my mind. The homophobic reggae/dancehall lyrics are pretty disturbing too . I am not a reggae fan, but listen to a lot of reggae and it is shocking to me when soemthing liek this comes up in a song With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

That was a hot mess. He really has some nerve when all he ever does is jump from one white woman to the next. He's done them all. From here to Idaho. Who the hell is he to chime in? Goodbye Quincy... [Edited 12/27/10 3:32am]

I try not to concern myself with what artists/celebrities do, because it would affect my enjoyment of the music. I want to be able to look at the music only rather than associating the art with the artist. If I did pay attention to everything these people did I wouldn't be listening to much of anything.

Well, its easy who i start with: Prince . Some of his moves that bothered me a lot are:
- Being so uptight/negative against WB (a company that supported him all the way from the start, and let him write and produce all of his material while he still was a 'nobody') and him leaving that company the way he did (the misplaced slave-talk). After leaving that company the (quality) control over what he did release was mostly gone. But that could also have to do with him surrounding himself with musicians who were more like session-musicians then real musical partners.
- Him trying to following trends in the nineties, instead of him just following his own musical muse: Also in his music from the eighties you can hear a tension between his desire to being succesfull and his desire to do his 'own thing' (when i look back 'Prince' and 'Purple Rain' are partially 'calculated' albums) but at least the artistic level of his music didnt really suffer from it. But when you look at the nineties you can see that on his major albums he is too often trying to be succesfull by following trends that just don't bring out the best of his music: New Jack Swing on the Graffiti Bridge album, Hip-hop on Diamonds and Pearls, Hip-hop and Dance-music on the Symbol album, Contempory R&B on Emancipation and New Power Soul. Those are just not his strenghts IMO. The funny thing is when you listen to 'obligational' records like Chaos and Disorder and the Vault or look at the live-performance on the Sacrifice of Victor video you see what (i think) Prince was really trying to achieve with the original NPG: making live-music together with a band, going for a more retro-soul, blues, jazz and rock-type of sound. On a major album like Diamonds and Pearls his attempts to please the hip-hop public sound forced, while on a minor album like The Vault the playing-pleasure and the mostly live recorded music feels more pure and sincere.
- The lack of both urgency and care in his music from this millenium: When i listen to most of his music from the last 10 years it almost appears to me that whenever he needs to tour he just gobbles up a couple of songs he recorded the weeks before, ads some of tracks from his vault to them (who werent even deemed good enough to be a b-side in the nineties) and releases them as an album, just for the sake of having an album released. It seems like there isnt much thought put into it: he just throws in a few rock songs, a few ballads and some dance-tracks, because hey, you appeal to a general public, and there you have it, a new Prince album. What i am missing in the material itself is the urgency his best eighties- and nineties material carried. The desire to really express or 'say' something that is feeding his output. How silly it might have sometimes been in the past (the over-reaction on an XTC-trip resulting in Lovesexy, his 'boner' for Mayte resulting in all that Egypt shit on the Symbol-album), at least it did benefit the delivery, the spirit of the music. Of course you can come with some 'stopgap' saying things: like is Prince mature now, less wild, satisfied with his believes and with his life. But that doesnt expell a good artist from still sounding inspired in his music and lyrics. Also in a more steady, less chaotic life you can find inspiration you can translate into music. Unfortunately he does it far too occassionally knowadays (a song like Reflection comes to mind, there you have a person who acts his age, that doesnt apply to the person who acts like a 14 yo adolescent on Mr. Goodnight). My pity is: with Sign of the Times i had the idea, Prince was coming to age lyrically, and allthough there have been moments of clearity since i mostly have the idea that he has retograded since in what he wants to share with us listeners and how he is presenting himself. Next to urgency, i also mentioned 'care'. With that i mean: taking care of the quality your music. Not being satisfied with what you originally recorded, but finetuning your melodies, making sure your riffs and grooves are as strong as possible. When i look to Princes output in the last 10 years i get the feeling he simply releases the songs he has just written, records them in one or two takes and puts them on record without much afterthought, and there you have it, the new album. One thing that strikes me a lot about his 00's material is that he doesnt seem to make an effort to write (strong) chorusses. Song like Cinnamon girl, Black Sweat and Fury really suffer from it. I know, many of his eighties songs often didnt have chorusses either, but those songs were simply better compositionwise and especially arrangementwise. At least they sounded urgent... lol And the sore moment he 'scores' with a chorus (Love from 3121 for example) the music is simply too dated, unimaginative or formulaic sounding to create much excitement. The lack of 'care' I also feel in the sound-palette he uses: some people here seem to think that him using the linn-drum and the synths-sounding-as-synths again on MPLsound and 20ten means that those albums are a return to form. IMO its just a superficial bid to be popular again. None of the Linn-beats on these recent albums are as creatively programmed as those on 1999 or Sign of the Times. None of the songs these drums are used on are as well composed as his eighties material and his material from the first half of the nineties, they also lack the urgency in delivery. When i look at what attracted me to Princes music in the first place, i realise it are his innovative arrangements, wether stripped down or more elaborated: he was at his peak with that in the eighties, and allthough he made much mistakes with it in the nineties (too much misguided attempts at hip-hop, dance and contemporary R&B) he still had his peak-moments, but when i look at Prince in the 00's i see an artists bored with himself who doesnt seem to care, mimicking his past music without much effort, care and urgency. A record like Parade could have inspired him to expand his soundpalette in later years, he didnt use that experience unfortunately.

Quincy Jones---Growing up,I had tremendous respect and admiration for Quincy Jones. In the 70s and early 80s,he was one of the greatest producers.I own several of his albums as well as the amazing albums that he produced for others. These days,I can't stand him.I'm sick and tired of his unhealthy obsession with hip-hop.In every interview,he bends over backwards to praise the rappers and continues to work with these people on his albums, totally neglecting his jazz roots. He allows his classic songs to be butchered by talentless losers like T-Pain and Akon Fresh out of ideas,he doesn't even bother to create many new songs these days. He's all about recycling and remaking.I'll continue to enjoy classic albums like 'The Dude' while ignoring anything that Quincy attempts these days.

Yeah,Quincy is an asshole for making those negative comments about Michael.....only a day or so after his death!! I was shocked. He said something like "Michael doesn't want to be black....I mean, just look at his children".Never mind the fact that Quincy's own children are racially mixed He's a total hypocrite.

Prince-Always will be my favorite, but I preferred when he didn't talk as much. At times he writes checks his mouth can't cash. As BBoy said though, I may not dig the person, but his art makes up for it.
Before truly understanding David Bowie's music/persona(one of my top 5 faves), his statement to Playboy magazine about Hitler being a "tremendous morale booster (1975)" was cringeworthy, but probably cocaine induced. That was the Thin White Duke Era, and he was trippin on some weird shit. Other than that, I truly don't believe that he is a Nazi sympathizer in any way.

Mariah Carey - Her going into the dumb route is starting to frustrate me. She keeps making great songs with real musicians, but then the majority of her recent music has been with beat makers...very saddening.
Monica & Brandy - Chile....I dodnt know why I keep wanting them to succeed at doing something different when i know full and well they are going to keep on acting like it is 1997.
50 Cent - I saw from the beginning he was a gimmick rapper even though people said that his first album was a classic, and that is JUST what he turned himself into. He sold himself out so much, nobody wants to hear him anymore.
Eminem - I am an Eminem STAN, however the last album I felt like he was selling himself short with all these featured guests that cluttered his LP. I only have about 4 songs off that album on my ipod because of it.
Teddy Riley - WOW ...he was one of the LAST people I would hate on after his 80's 90's legacy..but recently...I got to know who he really is to his fans and ....wow is all I can say. I lost MAJOR respect for the man. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
