Lets say it was MJ. Why are you shocked its not hot? Michaels best tracks as he was older have been Butterflies, Heaven Can Wait, Break of Dawn, Whatever Happens. I like One More Chance and Dont Walk Away as well.
Older Mike could still deliver a great slow to mid tempo jam, but his faster songs were not exactly hot. Even tracks like Unbreakable and Heartbreaker. Those are more MJ fan tracks, not something a non fan driving wants to sing along to in there car radio because its not that catchy.
Younger Mike on fast tracks was youthful and his voice just flowed on faster songs. Its not a diss, just older MJ was better off with Mid tempo to slow songs.

the title is sure right , this IS breaking news .
all the things you pointed out about 2000 watts , this is it and hold my hand make sense . and that story about mark ronson finishing a song . he had to work from a vocal track , this kinda points out that they didnt have much to work from the last couple of years. thats how its apealing to ME. like mike sang backing vocals on a demo and then had to go and never returned. why would teddy finish it up if its a cascio song ?
was jason malachi around in 2007 ? or was it 2008 ? anyway maybe mike found it funny to create controversy with this kind of song idea.
if not and sony pull out a prank not for the sake of creating controversy and a talk. then its even worse then alle post humous 2pac albums combined . someone else doing lead ... and that AOW , i told a friend thatt it sounded sampled or something ( when we had the 42 sec snippet)
hold my hand sounds like heaven to me compared to this and i dont even like it .
is there any way this could have been auto tune ? didnt teddy say something to the extent of someone worked with mike on auto tune , and he didnt want to give a name ..

Not when you consider the lyrics of Tabloid Junkie, Privacy and Is This Scary, and even Threatened. But like I said it's based on what I am hearing and not official lyrics - I would say 80% right though. "I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"

I think fans DON'T want this to be MJ because the song is utter shit. Oh well. It's a demo for a reason. [Edited 11/7/10 22:38pm]

Also for those that think Michael never spoke of himself (by name in a song)
Just sayin'

The weak vibrato in this song is enough evidence to convince me that this track is not 100% Michael. And the "daaahhs" that Michael usually does at the end of lines in uptempo tracks like this are not sharp enough either. Michael's "daaahhhs" could cut glass. These "daaaahhs" couldn't pierce cotton.
Unless they nonsensically distorted his voice to make it sound unrealistically soft at most points of the song, or Michael's vocal strength was physically inhibited for some reason during these sessions in 2007, that's not 100% Michael Jackson. I'd have to see some video footage of him recording this to be conviced otherwise.

SO Mj's family and kids don't want it to be him either? 'Cause they also say it's fake.
Maybe most of us actually know MJ's voice and can tell this is not him. Hardly anyone's commented on the actual song. MJ's had crap songs before, so it's not the issue.
The voice clearly isn't Michael's.
The diction and vibrato are totally different. [Edited 11/7/10 22:41pm] "And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ

Precisely - recorded in a home made studio.
It's not gonna have the production of his albums or the vocal layering and recording that Bruce Swedien gave him using a unique mic structure.
I think he all need to give it the over night test and see.
And while I don't think it's utter shit - it is a demo. Many of Micahel's songs that didn't make it onto an album didn't for a reason - Carousel anyone? - so we can't be expecting 10 Billie Jeans.
Also keep in mind Breaking News is NOT the single from the album. "I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"

Yeah but those songs don't have any kind of redundancy as this does. Songs like Tabloid Junkie, Privacy, DS, They Don't Really Care About Us, and Is This Scary are miles above this...I'm just saying. Something just isn't connecting with me in this song. The vocals are sorta like a mix between fake and real (whether its the auto-tune or not). But I'm for certain that this isn't Michael! This is my 6th time listening to it also and the pitch and tone of whoever is singing is off. This ain't Michael, so stop it. [Edited 11/7/10 22:47pm] Check me out and add me on:

Or maybe, it's the fact that MJ's vocals aren't up to par to his Pre-00's years?
I hope you understand this song is a demo. It's NOT the master cut. Hence why his voice sounds a bit sketchy and different at parts. [Edited 11/7/10 22:47pm]

Whether or not its a demo has no bearing on the man's voice. There's also demos for Gone Too Soon, Billie Jean, Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough, Working Day and Night, Earth Song, Dangerous, etc.
The diction isn't even Mike's. Mike had his way of over-pronouncing words and his own style of talking... none of that is present here.

I love this song.
And see how he pronounces Michael. Granted this is in the 70's but he pronounces his own name differently from this new song.
This whole scenario is so ridiculous.... I am starting to believe Sony planned this for some really effed up PR. ~Time Spent Learning is a Time Never Wasted~

Agreed it's not his strongest work and not up there with the songs we are discussing. And we haven't heard it til now for a reason.
I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt - and hope that video footage can emerge to prove it is (or isn't MJ). I also thing credits will set a lot of the that ain't him discussion to bed as I think we all agree there are others in the mix.
I think as fans we were spoilt to the great harmonies Michael's own voice could create. And when you hear someone else trying to compliment it, your ear rings and says that's not a true MJ harmony.
If it was an incomplete song, then it's likely he didn't do overdubs and harmonies on the backing vocals.
Time will tell. "I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"

Agree or disagree but i think Ne Yo's production style was more suited to older MJ.
http://www.youtube.com/wa...BYoOTRAh9U
Ne Yo demo that was meant for MJ. Its not MJ singing but Ne Yo trying to sing like MJ so Mike could get a feel for if he sang it. This is the style suited for older Mike. Mid Tempo where he doesnt have to sing to fast.

Exactly. Demo or not, this does not sound like MJ. "Love Never Felt So Good" for one was very unpolished but you could tell it was MJ. "In The Back" hardly had any lyrics and wasn't even close to being finished, yet you could tell it was MJ.
I believe MJ might be singing on "Breaking News" in certain parts. In some parts it sounds like him, but the majority does not sound like him at all. I believe Malachi is singing the majority of this. Something is just off here. I just don't see how any long time listener of MJ's could actually believe this is him 100%.
Something just isn't clicking here for me. Like you said, the only way to be convinced if there was actual video of MJ recording this in the studio.
Otherwise........

Those songs were recorded over 25 years ago...
MJ in the This Is It footage didn't sound like his old self. Get real. His vibrato was a bit off and his voice has aged. 2000 watts doesn't sound like the MJ we all know hence why fans bombarded Teddy Riley with questions about the song being him or not. It turns out it was him.

BTW (and sorry for rapid fire posts but I'm at work and no one else is around).
It wouldn't surprise me if Song know it is MJ - have proof etc, and are holding it back to let the controversy swirl and have the buzz hit the web and discussions like this take place.
It's all marketing for the album.
Then if they have some kind of footage that proves it's Michael - they wheel it out just before the album launch and cue the sales. "I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"

As I said, listen to his other demo's They sound nothing like this. You can still tell it was MJ. "In The Back" is a lot less polished than "Breaking News" yet I knew right away it was MJ when I listened to the song.
The thing is that I'm not referring to the quality of the song or the vocals.
MJ's vocals were great on "Invincible" in 2001 so I don't know what you're talking about. They were great on "Hold My Hand" and a few remixes he did for "Thriller 25" in 2007. His voice was great when he sang in "This Is It" and that was in 2009, so i'm not buying that. His voice was as good as ever up until the day he died. Deeper, but just as great.
But it's not the quality of the vocals i'm bothered by, it's the fact that it JUST DOES NOT sound like Michael Jackson. Period. [Edited 11/7/10 22:56pm] "And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ

I disagree. That was my point, that songs recorded 30 years ago or 20 years ago or 10 years ago sound like Mike. Hold My Hand sounds like Mike. This Is It sounds like Mike. This does NOT.
2000 Watts is the only exception, but Mike's trademarks are clearly there, his way of pronouncing words and such. That's all absent from this track.

On the up side - it kinda kills all the death hoax rumors.
Cause if Michael was alive and hiding out, releasing these tracks himself, you'd know it was him 100%, lol.

I understand that MJ's vocals had aged throughout his life...but seriously just listen to 0:55-0:57 of this new song. Would Michael ever dictate his name like that? That line "Everybody wanting a piece of Michael Jackson" just makes this a fake itself.

You also have to take into account his performance on the remake of Wanna Be Startin Somethin' remix with AKON. There are parts of that that made me think Michael was having difficulty singing and was mumbling and stumbling on words.
The truth will come out eventually. I'm happy to give the benefit of the doubt til then. "I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"
