Especially the stuff in Hip-Hop, with people like Mobb Deep, they knew how make people violent and angry.

Oh God, yes!!! And even R&B sounded all gloomy.
I know I'm going to get kicked in the face for this but many soul singing groups back in the 50s/60s all sound the same to me.

Funk in the 80s is superior to Funk in the 70s
Autotune sounds good, people need to stop crying about oversaturation and the wack artists who abuse it.
Women should never rap.
Drum Machines > Live Drums

1. People are crying about it BECAUSE of the oversaturation, not because of autotune itself.
2. Sexist, much? Maybe you're listening to the wrong female rappers?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I agree somewhat. It can be fine when used "correctly." I love Kanye but he definitely went overboard with it on 808s.
What would make you say that?

I just cant stand female rappers.
they annoy me to hell.
Female singers tend to get on my nerves as well.

Run DMC is lame.
2pac is overrated.
Madonna deserved the career she has.
Prince is 1000x better than Michael Jackson and Madonna and doesn't deserved to be as overlooked as he is, especially when compared to them.
Mariah has nothing going for her (and still doesn't) other than her voice. Same with Christina.
Aaliyah would be flopping now if she were alive.
Britney Spears is better and is still than her pop peers.
Purple Rain (the song) is really, really overrated.
After 4:50 Do Me Baby goes downhill.
Kanye's diva antics is better than his music.

Agree with everything here except Prince IMO is level to Michael, Michael is slightly better because he didn't let his talent slip or put his name to sub standard material/albums because of disagreements with record labels. Prince let his ego get in the way of his success and in turn less people appreciate him and his artistry. While most of us were jamming away to Scream, which was a great song AND still expressed MJ's distaste with the industry without him changing his name or writing slave on his face, most had written off Prince as insane, crazy or just not good anymore. No matter what the media said about Mike, it didn't hurt his sales or the overall appreciation of his music.

I guarentee this will be the most unpopular opinion in this thread:
Prince's Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic is one of his best post-80's albums and would be perceived very differently by his fanbase if it had been a commercial success.

Hmmm what about Invincible? I think everything you described about Prince there could be said about the Invincible era. (except for changing his name or writing slave on his face of course, but the Tommy Mottola rant more then made up for that). I feel it was such a letdown to the amazing work/era he did for History/BOTDF.

Mike had big plans for Invincible, his label seemed to not be interested in promoting it and, yes, he did take offence and run with it and it hurt the album's potential in the US. So I guess that was the Prince-iest thing he ever did Still, worldwide it sold well and it did debut at #1 in the USA so even the worst MJ publicity can't dampen his sales. Invincible is every bit as sub-par as any of Prince's worst offenders.

You Rock My World, Speechless and Butterflies were great. The latter two could've easily been singles as well as YRMW.
Point is for one shitty MJ album there's about 7 for Prince.
