Aaliyah would be flopping now if she were alive.

Britney Spears is better and is still than her pop peers.

Purple Rain (the song) is really, really overrated.

I agree with these. Prince shits on Michael and Madonna combined. Dangerous - Invincible were horrible. Bad is decent but has alot of filler. Prince has at least 6 albums that completely shit on anything Michael has done. Since people are bringing up Prince's whole slave/new moniker episode... how about Michael marrying Elvis' daughter as a desperate publicity stunt or Michael being a pedophile or Michael dangling his baby over a balcony or Michael paying off a man and a woman just so he could have 3 kids??? Or Michael hating being black so much that he destroyed his face? I could go on but Michael has just as many faults as Prince if not MORE. Prince was only a massive success with Purple Rain, before then and afterwards he always maintained a certain level of success which never hurt his artistry or creativity. Thriller stunted Michael's growth and he rehashed the same songs over and over again. Michael's redeeming qualities are his iconic music videos and being able to dance.

Have you heard Privacy???

You Rock My World, Speechless and Butterflies were great. The latter two could've easily been singles as well as YRMW.

Point is for one shitty MJ album there's about 7 for Prince. lol

Invincible has a few momets of brilliance and a lot of moments of mediocrity.

Autotune was good when Stevie and Zapp used it. lol wink

- Stevie, Roger & Zapp used the talkbox.

- on an 80's track such as Midnight Star's "Operator", you can hear the vocoder. More 80's funk-artists used this as well.

- Both the talkbox and vocoder are from way back and physical instruments, while autotune is a later-developed voice-enhancing program.

Cher is supposedly one of the first artists who used autotune on "Believe".

Slave needed Steve Arrington

hmmm ... somehow i think that a majority of Slave-fans might agree with this. Yeah, it's unfortunate how things went when they splitted. Not shure what really was going

on between them back then, but from interviews i understood that the financial support from Atlantic/Cotillion lacked. That's why Slave continued on Ichiban Records,

which was run by a friend of theirs, and which finally got them the dough they deserved. Also for that same reason why they titled their first Ichiban-album "Unchained At Last".

Dave Grohl has ruined any credit he got for being part of Nirvana

Hole's Live Through This was a stronger album than Nirvana's Nevermind

Christina Aguilera's Bionic is awful, but its still better than her debut

Madonna, Princa and Janet will never again make a classic album. They are simply too estranged from reality.

* No one really cares if you think Dangerous through to Invincible sucked - considering Dangerous, HIStory and Blood on the Dancefloor are 3 of the biggest selling albums of all time. While Prince was floundering with Graffiti Bridge, Mike was riding the success of Black or White. Love Symbol bombed, and while Prince was fucking around with Warner Bros, Mike was finding huge success with the Dangerous world tour, HIStory - Scream, Earth Song. What 90s Prince song comes close to Stranger in Moscow? Dude was happy releasing sub par, embarrassing material like a prissy bitch and made his fans put up with it all - still is. Mike wanted his fans to be happy, wowed and properly entertained right up until the bitter end.

As for all the personal shit you brought up, 99% of which isn't even true (seriously, he'd been dating Lisa Marie for years before they got married) - fuck you. This Prince vs Mike discussion was totally focused on their professional sides NOT their personal sides - although Prince MADE it personal in the 90s. His music didn't have to suffer because he was having issues with his label. Or maybe he just ran out of creativity and originality before Michael did? He has all the control he wants now, yet his music still sucks ass and we just take what we can get.

While Prince was off writing shit like Purple and Gold, Michael was planning the jaw dropping This Is It shows. Mike made a perfectly bittersweet comeback in death, Prince is still the crazy irrelevant washed up 80s star with one big album.

rolleyes Dude, this thread is called unpopular opinions...and just because an album sells wells doesn't necessarily mean it's good. But I agree, that whole Mj vs Prince shit should have died a long time ago. Who cares if he married Lisa, that was his business. Prince never saw Mj as threat whatsoever, let's make that shit clear, and I'm pretty sure Mj didn't see Prince as one also. And that statement you made that I bolded about P being washed up is bullshit and unfair, but I know people think like that. Why shit Prince? Both artist had their good stuff and crudy bullshit. Dangerous wasn't all that great, but it did have better songs than Thriller. Prince had many album and a lot of it was horrible, especially in the 90s, with the exception of two. And Purple Rain is not a good song. disbelief MJ, while I'll admit had better material and more success in the 90s than P, had some trashy material too and the fact that the man only had 7 album within a 30 year career span is rather sad, while Prince released an album every year. I'm not saying quatity beats quality, because it doesn't, but at least Prince had more material to search for and listen to. Anyway, let me stop for real. As I said before, both artists had their good stuff and crudy shit, but they still made an impact on music. So lets keep it at that.

Well, as you said, this IS the unpopular opinions thread lol

Nothing wrong with telling it like it is - we all know very well Prince is probably still capable of being amazing again, that he probably has one last classic album left in him. We know he holds back, censors himself and distances himself from his old material/his legacy. We all know the 90s was a disaster for him and his career in every way possible and that his career is just riding on the fact that he's Prince nowadays and WAS great once. We've all been extremely frustrated by his treatment of us in one way or another - whether it be overpricing tickets, not touring, ordering fansites to shut, suing anyone who uses his music, closing websites or just releasing horrible embarrasingly bad music.

Mike NEVER stooped to doing any of that, even during his trial he was making sure fans were OK - there's video of him ready to tear a paparazzo's head off for pushing a fan. Prince is too busy writing diss tracks to us to care about the fact that we'll be the only ones preserving/caring about his legacy one day.

You tell me sales don't equal quality but then say it's "sad" that MJ only released 7 albums? Give me 7 solid, hard worked on, truly timeless albums than 35, with only about 5 or 6 truly worth listening to, most of which were released just to end a contract.

There's a reason that troll further up could only attack MJ's personal life via tabloid bullshit - because, careerwise, Prince just cannot compete.

Well, I like to believe all his decent songs (Somewhere Here on Earth, Laydown, Sticky Like Glue, Dreamer, Crimson and Clover, Fury, Black Sweat, Future Baby Mama, etc) are signs he isn't completely done and still posesses some of his old magic.

Well, all you can do is either love him and put up with it ( lol ) or just move the fuck on, dude. J/K but I know what you're saying and I agree to some extent, but Prince is ALWAYS going to do the opposite of what fans want. It's always been like that. I have been a fan since the age of 8, but I'm not stupid and I sure as hell am not going to waste money on the album he put out recently, hell I didn't even bother with the last one. lol And 7 solid albums? falloff Only about two or three are solid and the rest are just so-so, IMO, but different strokes for different folks. Most of Prince's stuff is good in the 80s, 90s were horrible except for 2 albums, and in the 00s, only 2 albums were good. I'm not trying to make Prince into no damn Messiah, but at the same time, some people don't give dude enough credit. I like MJ and he was a very talent man, but a good portion of his music was not something to holler about, I didn't say all of it, but a good portion of it wasn't all that great. And then in his shows, it's always the same songs over and over again. I really wished he made another album before he passed on, seriously. I like both of them, but both had their problems that pissed me off, and it has nothing to do with their personal lives either. I am critical of both of them. I really disagree about the quality of Mike's music, I think from Off The Wall to HIStory he was unreachable in his consistency. After and before that time period is fair game.

He's "releasing" an album by the end of this year if the rumours are true, and is set to release something like 7 over the next decade or so.

Mike made a perfectly bittersweet comeback in death, Prince is still the crazy irrelevant washed up 80s star with one big album.

falloff
