Hot Damn Bboy87, you aint even give me a chance to listen and catch up. Keep em coming though. If I was an A&R person today, I'd find the funkiest Blue Eyed Soul band and unleash them on the starving ears of all of those who love great music. I'd be rich for it too. LOL.

I sing this song at Karokee all of the time, and I'm so freggin ashamed that I never knew that Bobby Caldwell was white. Damn. I had some cuts of him from back in the day but there were no pictures on them. Hot Dam! After singing his songs all of these years, I never even heard anyone even mention his race. He was just that freggin good. Damn.

To be honest one of the best Contemporary Blue Eyed Soul bands still around is The Group Sade. The lead singer is only that. The group Hale, Matthewman, and Stuart" make up the musical sound of Sade, and they are soulful as hell. I'm like where the hell did they get that from so far out there in Britian. Now of Helen Folsosade Adu lends her sultry vocals to the group., and that makes it extra special. But alone Helen is just a basic singer. It's like as a group they become so powerful.

When the group briefly disbanded (to say) those guys were working with Amel Laurreux, they are like genius.

they are from the UK

the leader was Paul Weller from The Jam & featured his former wife DC Lee, she was featured on the early Wham recordings as well as going solo in the early 90's

No, Time(Clock of the Heart) used to get mad love and air play in the hood. It's definitely got Soul!

.also another honorable mention is Glenn Hughes (ex Deep Purple vocalist). His recent music in the last few years is very soulful with some groove rock. Very (vocally) influenced by Stevie Wonder and Donny Hathaway. He even sent a demo to Paisley Park in the 90's but nothing

came from it.

I cant really blame them, its almost like saying White Boys trying to be black, when we all know (especially with what is "soul" today) black has nothing to do with soul. Annie Lennox is a soul singer, whitney houston is not.

Yeah Steve Winwood definitely needs an honorable mention. That track with he and Chaka "Bring me a Higher Love" was sooo damned hot!

I respectfully disagree with you there. Soul is one of the many dimensions of blackness or perhaps better said "the black culture". The operation of voice, sound (particularly tone), vocal control, emotion and the music itself has always been different in black music than in other genres historically.

There's Soul Food, Soul Brothers, Soul Dances, Soul Strokes.....it's pretty much cultural. Some people outside of the culture have been very good and successful at tapping into that part of the culture. Which is why they were labeled "Blue Eyed Soul" artists. That classic "soul sound" that many hear, really started in the black church. Listen to some Mahalia and take the gospel out, and you have a Soul singer.

Whitney Houston was not marketed as a Soulful Artist but a pop artist....but trust me, I've heard Whitney get down on some tracks (particularly old Gospel tracks) and she could once sound very soulful. Annie Lennox....you really think?
