So Bon Jovi Failed to take Prince's Crown - 12 Nights only at the o2

So it's true they .....lost ......Prince still owns the o2 ..... lol

Meanwhile, back here in 2010, Bon Jovi (another absentee) are playing 12 nights at London’s O2 Arena. Which is an astonishing achievement, even if they didn’t manage to break the record for Prince’s 21 nights, as they originally claimed they would. The American rockers have been billing themselves as The Biggest Rock Band On The Planet. I am not quite sure what that means.

Biggest rock band of the planet???? pppff, my eye; their albums after Crush are awful and they're a very jaded live band with a very predictable set-list...

No one is the man. No one lost, or won. It's not a contest, people. Prince wishes he still had the American fan base that Bon Jovi has currently. Bon Jovi can sell out a damn country if they wanted, and they are selling a ton more records than Prince has in almost 10 years. Let's compare facts as to who owns what:

Their last album in 2009? Yeah, over 2 million world wide. Low numbers considering how much downloading is going on, but Prince didn't even make gold with a 3 record set.

Bon Jovi's 2007 release - 4 million world wide. Prince? Planet Earth - nothing to speak of.

Bon Jovi 2005 release - 7 million records world wide. Prince? 3121 in 2006 - Gold.

Bon Jovi 2002 release - 6 million world wide. Prince? 2001's The Rainbow CHildren - didn't even crack the top 100 in the US, and barely made that in Switzerland (which is of course a huge market....NOT)

Prince doesn't own shit. He can't even compile a decent DVD, yet Bon Jovi makes movies about tours and it's on Showtime exclusively running more than Golden Girls reruns when Rue McClannahan died. He could learn something from the New Jersey boys.

Somebody sold out 50 nights as i recall. So whoever that masked man was, i guess they could be classed as 'da man'.

All I can say, is, I entirely agree with U!! Also, I doubt whether Bon Jovi would face themselves or their fans if they produced a pathetic song like "Hot Summer" is!!!!biggrin biggrin biggrin

Let's not forget Prince's ticket prices were dirt cheap (£31.21) I doubt anyone else has charged such low prices at the O2 and ever will again. Even people not remotely interested in Prince were going. That's a cheap night out in London town.

That simply, is how he did 21 dates. Normal prices and he'd do 3 tops now.

Yeah, EPIC FAIL lol

100,000,000 fans can't be wrong.

Despite what a non-fan thinks of their albums post-whatever, they're selling MILLIONS, in a time where the industry reported the lowest sales in a 10 year history. Keith Urban and Prince competed for the #1 spot, depending on the chart you looked at, last year. Yet neither even went gold with their album in the first month. Defying Gravity has sold in the US 761,921 copies as of February, 2010.

Bon Jovi's last album sold 2 million world wide.

Prince's last album has sold 415,829 units at year's end according to Soundscan. PRINCE, of all people, can barely (or not) clear a Gold album. That doesn't make Prince a lesser person. But if you're trying to knock a band down, let's at least look at the numbers that are out there.

O Honey..Don't try that shit! The NUMBERS ARE... Prince 21 NITES...Bon Jovi 12.

Peace.

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Just b/c a band can sell records it doesn`t mean they`re all that good. Brittany Spears, Nsync, & a ton of other crap acts have sold millions but their music stil SUCKS! & btw, MJ may have sold out that many nights but he failed to follow thru. It`s not a competition but facts are facts. & yes Bon Jovie is lame & u`re most likely pretty lame if u`re still listening to them.

Don't bring MJ into this. That subject is as tired as u are.(No disrespect to MJ, R.I.P) The thread is about Bonjovi Failing to take the 02 record from Prince. Period. Don't get me wrong tho. 12 nites is cool, just not good enough for the baddest mofo on the planet. Our Man Prince. It's cool tho, maybe Jon & the boys can come back in a few years and try again. comfort

I see you can't handle an adult conversation, but would rather resort to personal insults and barbs by calling someone "tired", in order to hide the fact that you're dead wrong. Someone else in the thread brought up the FACT, that MJ sold out the 02 for 50 nights, over twice what Prince decided to book. I'm just agreeing with them.

Oh, that's right, Prince wanted to be all symbolic with 3121. If he had thought ahead and added 31 and 21 together, he could have sold out more than MJ booked and sold out. Meh, MJ still holds the record for selling out 50 nights in a record time.

Bon Jovi wasn't out to set some record either. Time and again the 02 arena officials have said their goal with the arena was to have artists come in for a temporary residency and play a block of shows over a period of time. It's not a fucking contest to see who can book more. The whole idea of this thread is retarded. That doesn't mean the O.P. is, just the idea of the thread itself.

PS dig up: Bon Jovi have learned plenty. Those guys are fucking pissing $100 bills, and it's not just from selling records. They're quite smart when it comes to investing in business ventures and making money. Prince can't even run a damn website for more than a year at a time anymore. In fact, Lotusflow3r.com isn't even a black screen anymore. It's gone, just like everyone's $77. But praise Paisley Park, everyone got a t-shirt and two copies of the same album (one of which they bought as an extra item outside of the $77 website). Last time I look, Bon Jovi didn't charge me just to LOOK at their site.

I'm not a fan of Bon Jovi, but I can recognize that they are trying to do anything: They're just doing it.

They're just a rock band. I loved them through their first 3 or 4 album, but lost interest a bit. I'm not a big defender of them, but I can recognize the fact that they have a very wide spread appeal to the mass public. If folks don't like 'em, ...well, let's talk about someone we do like.
