Product Description

THE JACKSON 5: LIVE AT THE FORUM is a new 2-CD set that uncovers an amazing chapter from the phenomenal career of Michael Jackson and his brothers in the J5: their extraordinary performances from the Los Angeles Forum, recorded in June 1970 and August 1972—the first at the start of their rapid ascent to stardom, the second when they became established icons. These brilliant shows have not been released in any form until now, the 40th anniversary of the 1970 show.

LIVE AT THE FORUM features earth-shaking live performances of the group’s best-known hits – “I Want You Back,” “ABC,” “The Love You Save,” “I’ll Be There,” “Never Can Say Goodbye” and more. Single B-sides “I Found That Girl” and “I’m So Happy” and such surprises as album cuts “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and “Zip A Dee Do Dah,” plus songs not released by the J5 at the time, including covers of James Brown’s “There Was a Time” and the Isley Brothers’ “It’s Your Thing,” are part of the shows. The 1972 show also features a full, fantastic set of Michael’s solo hits, including “Got To Be There” and “Ben,” his brand new single at the time, as well as a solo spot by Jermaine.

Disc 1 includes the Forum show recorded June 20, 1970, when the group broke existing box office records at the venue. The J5, with three consecutive No. 1 hits, were on their first national tour, and the show is a unique document of the growing “Jacksonmania” gripping the globe. You can hear their delight in performing; their talent and rapport is phenomenal. In a sweet moment also captured on tape, 11-year-old Michael pays tribute to Diana Ross, who’s in the audience.

Disc 2 was recorded August 26, 1972, just three days before Michael’s 14th birthday. It’s practically a greatest hits show, with every major track by the group, and solo Michael and Jermaine, up to that point. Of particular note on both discs is the band performance: the group’s vocals are backed simply and forcefully by Jermaine on bass, Tito on guitar, Ronnie Rancifer on keyboards and Johnny Jackson on drums.

Each disc includes a bonus track: an unreleased full live version of “Mama’s Pearl,” from the concert that became part of the 1971 TV special Goin’ Back To Indiana, closes Disc 1; “I Wanna Be Where You Are,” from the soundtrack album to Save The Children, makes its CD debut at the end of Disc 2.

LIVE AT THE FORUM is housed in a collector’s digi-pak with rare photos, collectable postcards of the individual J5 brothers, and insightful liner notes by Duke University professor, author and unabashed J5 fan Mark Anthony Neal.

The tracks the Neptunes did for Justin Timberlake... MJ should have used them. Combine those with Butterflies, Break of Dawn, Heaven Can Wait, Whatever Happens, Dont Walk Away and now you got a blockbuster album.

I agree! "Rock Your Body" is the "Rock With You" of the 2000s.One of my main problems with 'Invincible' is,the uptempo tracks aren't very good. Those songs are mediocre at best. The slow jams are excellent.Michael just needed some strong uptempo jams, and the Neptunes came up with some great tracks. It was a mistake for MJ to reject these songs.

Could you REALLY see Michael doing something like U Don't Have To Call or Rock Your Body. I'm a total Neptunes stan but those songs for Mike? I'm not too sure about that.

The lyrics could have been altered slightly lol For example,a line like "I'll have you naked by the end of this song" could have been changed. But musically, those tracks are on point. The Neptunes created songs that sound like the OTW era,but with a modern twist.

I totally agree. Justified was basically a modern day OTW. I love that album. Justin did a great job but those songs had MJ written all over them. I would have died if I heard MJ sing 'Like I Love You.' lol

For those Michael Jackson fans, you have a lot to look forward to this August when Panini releases their 2010 Michael Jackson Trading Card Set. There is no doubt that one of the most popular parts of this product will be the authentic relics which can be found around 1 per case. This will be the first time collectors have the chance of pulling authentic Michael Jackson memorabilia cards from a product. It will be very interesting to see how much those things sell for.

Umm...you forgot something.....

the release date so I can run to the store and buy these!!! lol

lol I don't know the exact release date, the article just said sometime in August. I wonder what these authentic relics are that they speak of? hmmm

I like it too but it’s not strong enough to make the album, and its already leaked and all over youtube and MJ kept in the vault for a reason.

They said that the majority of the album includes post-Invincible material so the song doesn’t fit with the sound of the album……

I am not sure what album you are talking about anyway. Is it the new album that´s supposed to be released in the summer or when?

One thing to remember

There's gonna be TWO albums released. On MJJC, it was said the November release is gonna consist of mostly recent material so we're gonna have to wait and see

and Michael could've reworked it in later years, who knows?

No, Love Never Felt So Good was for a project with Anka but it fell through but it was given to Johnny Mathis. It's just that Michael's demo was kept in the vault

I'm not sure, man lol I'm just can't really see it, except for "Nothing Else". Michael could've destroyed that cut lol but I think they only sent him Senorita, Rock Your Body, and Like I Love You

I was reading an article and Pharrell said after he interviewed MJ for Interview magazine, he found out he never even heard the demos, so who knows what happened neutral

Yeah, he kept it in the vault for a reason and that’s because it wasn’t strong enough, the fact that he gave the song to Johnny Mathis enhanced what I said.

MJ didn’t even had the intention to release it, the same goes for ” this is it” , he gave it to Safire.

If MJ had worked on those songs lyrically they would have been different as Justin wrote most of the lyrics. Had those songs been snatched up by Michael they they would have had different titles and different takes on it. Who can say if they would have been better - just that they would have been different.

There is no denying those songs are very OTW influenced and its a shame we never got hear what an MJ Pharrell collaboration would have resulted in.

Jackson Museum in Gary Advances without Estate Permission

Plans to build a Michael Jackson museum in the King of Pop's hometown of Gary, Indiana, are officially underway. Michael's father Joe Jackson and Mayor Rudy Clay have announced that the city donated 300 acres of land for the proposed museum and arts center. After years of planning, construction of the Jackson Family Museum and Hotel and the Michael Jackson Performing Arts and Cultural Center and Theaters could begin next year, the AP reports. According to Clay, funding for the $300 million project would come from both investors and donations, and not taxpayer money.

"This is a happy day for me because this is something that my family and Michael have always wanted. We're bringing something back," Joe Jackson said at a press conference (watch it at NWI Times). Clay predicted that the museum and arts center would help attract 750,000 people a year to Gary, bringing in $100 million to $150 million in income for the community. "This project will be the magnet that will draw people from all over the world," Clay said, adding that Michael Jackson expressed an interest in bringing an arts center and theater bearing his name to Gary, where Michael and his family spent his early years, as far back as 2003. "This is not a promise. This is going to be done," Clay said of the project, which also includes plans for a hotel, stores, restaurants, housing and even a golf course.

One major obstacle remains, however: receiving permission from the Jackson estate to use Michael's name and copyright at all. (Joe Jackson was written out of Michael's will.) "The Estate of Michael Jackson was never consulted about, nor is it involved in, the Jackson Family museum being proposed in Gary, Indiana. Michael Jackson's music, name, likeness, memorabilia and other intellectual property are assets exclusively owned by the Estate for the benefit of his children, his mother during her lifetime and charities as specified in his will," said Howard Weitzman, the attorney for Jackson's estate, in a statement. "The Estate has no connection to this project."
