It's sobering to think that 25 years ago, there were no memoirs and Rock Hudson was being outed by AIDS. So, we're making progress. While this is no shock to anyone, it's a really pretty moving announcement. Good for him! VOTE....EARLY

Why would he reveal this before the book? are there some Menudo reveals that are going to be bigger than this? [Edited 3/29/10 21:29pm]

I have a lot of music and consider myself a pretty passionate music fan. I've become a pretty avid collector and I play piano in addition to learning how to play the bass guitar. I'm also a huge geek and like to make lots of lists (hence the polls, etc.). I have my list of top 2010 songs for 2010 ready to go. That said, I also have a list of my least favorite songs ever. And Ricky tops it with that disgrace to humanity known as "Livin' la Vida Loca". "Livin La Vida Loca" is one of my all time favorite songs! And although it is supposedly about a female, I always thought Ricky was singing about a dude as fine as he is! Congrats, Ricky, your real fans, including screaming women, will stay with you--be who you are!

[Edited 3/29/10 21:29pm] Coming out wasn't a 'reveal.' I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Maybe, Miss Tyler will follow suit ..or Usher, or Ne-Yo, or Kanye, or Diddy, or Foxx... (or for that matter...George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ving Rhames, Michael Clark Duncan, Simon Cowell, Tiki Barber, Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Eubanks, Tom Cruise, Terrence Howard, Wayne Brady, Mario Lopez, Al Reynolds... or any number of others, lol). And that's just the short list, lol (...of course, all in my own opinion). [edited to add a few other suspects, lol] [Edited 3/30/10 1:37am]

Maybe, Miss Tyler will follow suit In a film called "You Know Why I Didn't Get Married" LOL. That's funny, but anyone who is actually gay shouldn't really have to tell people their gay unless they want to. If, however, they have already been asked and they have denied it, then it would be nice for them to be honest and tell the truth since they've already spoken and said they are not. Just my opinion, of course.

Good for him! I knew he was gay even before his Vida Loca days, within four seconds of seeing him.
Some people may roll their eyes at his late-to-the-party declaration, but imagine how difficult it is to come from a latino background, heavy on the machismo, and admit to this? Then imagine that you have millions of fans, most of them adoring women, and how this news may alienate or disappoint them all. It's not an easy decision to come out. Those of us in the straight world may have no clue about how hard it must be to just say "This is Who I Am". Luther Vandross never did. Michael Jackson never did. The entertainment world is full of people who are gay, just like the rest of the world is. Kudos to Ricky for accepting himself for who he really is. --- Having said that...why does Tyler Perry annoy me so? Is it because his "comedies" are so lame? Is it because he puts on a dress and insults grandmothers everywhere? Nothing against six foot tall gay men, but when they put on the Dame Edna routine, it just isn't funny. Sorry "Pythonites" and Kids in the Hall... Some people tell me I've got great legs...

Kudos to Ricky for accepting himself for who he really is. I applaud his declaration! It's important to young gay people still in the closet (and out, of course) to have role models that were not outed because of notoriety or excess. I like it that Ricky Martin is making a stance; his message described all the difficulty of being gay in such an environment, so I love it that he came out officially. Yay Ricky! >>

At least, for him and anyone who has had a hard time being gay and coming out publicly. And it's definitely not about who already knew. It's about Ricky and what HE'S feeling and thinking and not anyone else. His speech may be considered too dramatic and boring, but if Ricky wrote what he felt, that's what it's all about. He didn't write it, I don't think, because he didn't know he was gay. He knew. He wrote it, I'd say, to let the public (and his fans mainly, probably) know that he knows and is good with it by speaking about it. It took him long enough, yes, but not everyone is on the same level:) [Edited 3/29/10 18:21pm] [Edited 3/29/10 19:07pm] and promote his autobiography [Edited 3/30/10 3:30am]

I think about that phenomenon a lot. But I suspect that given time, anyone (his female fans in particular) would eventually come to the realization that this is the same person that they adored when they thought he was straight.

I kinda liked his album w/ Liva la Vida Loca. Fun song. I thought the duet with Madonna ("Be Careful") was quite nice indeed.
But yeah... obviously no surprise here. * * *
