Believe what you heard. Janet Jackson WILL open the 2009 MTV VMAs on Sunday, September 13 with a very special musical tribute to her late brother, Michael Jackson.

A Janet Jackson appearance is enough to keep you glued to your TV, but Janet Jackson paying tribute to Michael Jackson's memory is going to be simply unmissable.

i'm incredibly interested to see how janet pulls this off. i think she's truly the last great, in regards to that style of pop star.

there's no questioning her dancing abilities (and, to be fair, its not as though she's a professionally trained dancer like some of the other iconic dancer/singer acts). sure, she lip syncs but so does every other singer/dancer act (only the sycophants would say otherwise).

i'm most interested in this because janet's spent most of her career keeping her professional career and her blood relations very seperate. other than "scream", she has always worked at being an entertainer in her own right. will be very dramatic to see her mix her career with her brother's under these circumstances. i also think she's the only jackson not interested in using his death as a platform.

to be honest, part of me thinks this is the only tribute that really matters. mj's kid sister giving him his props and saying goodbye.

so every recording artist and their momma can pay tribute to mj but his own sister who happens to be a pop icon in her own right and who actually grew up with him is using his death to promote herself? mtv had to represent when it came to their tribute for mj at the vma's and what better way for them to do that then to have janet (who has had a rocky relationship with the network in recent years) return to perform for the very 1st time the only song she ever performed with her brother...and add all the top notch dancers who all got their start with either mj or janet joining her onstage. mtv gets an A+ for pulling this off, i cant wait to see how it turns out.
