As my husband rightly told my daughter anyone who makes excuses which is a roundabout was of justifying violence against women... are suspect and not to be trusted at high noon or at twelve midnight. It happens in America also even though everyone knows it leads to jail. That isn't enough of a deterrent is it? I would respectfully beg to differ superman, go back and read the previous 8 pages of this thread. Please, go back to the thread that started our discussion about this incident. I've been very interested in what the men of org have had to say, I'm pleased and relieved most expressed horror and outrage. As far as America..we still have a long way to go. I'm an advocate/lawyer (pro bono) for women of domestic abuse in Chicago. Chicago is the only city in the U.S.which has set-up a separate Domestic Violence Court. Our Mayor has been a strong and vocal advocate for bringing about justice for the victim's of abuse but it's not as simple as you hit a women, you go to jail. Only 17% of domestic violence cases in Cook County end in conviction. If you or anyone wants me to explain why this is and what are the obstacles victim's face, I'm more willing to do so. I will say that I am backing away from the idea that this relationship, regardless of how long it lasts, will doom their careers, especially hers. I was at Target today and she's on every mag cover, even People (her cover a couple weeks ago must have sold well). And her CD hasn't left the top 40 all this time, even after the revelation that she went back to Brown. Some say she had a tough girl image that won't work now. But, I'm not so sure. She had "Take A Bow", but also "Rehab" (keeps going back to a toxic relationship), "S.O.S" (obsessive), "Umbrella" (loyal, come what may), Disturbia (crazy)...She has more than one image going it seems. She won't be anybody's Cover Girl if she stays with him, but maybe she doesn't need to be. "Be glad for what you had baby, what you've got..." | |

"Oh, absolutely!" Akon said in a phone interview Monday. "I wouldn't take anybody's personal issues or problems— I won't hold them accountable for that when it comes to work. I think it's two separate things." The 19-year-old R&B singer was charged with two felonies last week in connection with an alleged attack on his girlfriend, pop star Rihanna, 21. Brown is accused of beating her in the early morning hours of Feb. 8, the day of the Grammy Awards: Both were due to perform but bowed out. He was arrested that night. Since then, a photo has surfaced that purportedly shows a badly beaten Rihanna, and an affidavit released last week offered brutal details of the alleged assault. Related: Protective order issued against Chris Brown Brown has seen endorsements evaporate and some stations have stopped playing the music of the platinum star. But Akon said it's not fair to "to hold his whole career at bay because of it. He's gonna learn and he's gonna move forward and just hopefully he won't treat the next woman the same way." He agreed last December to perform community service and pay a fine for throwing a teen off a stage in 2007 after someone in a crowd apparently threw something at him.
