I think ppl have rose-tinted memories. To me, a lot of this crap was the same kind of waste as the boy bands in the 90s and the current airwave pollution.
I did like the first two Wham! singles, though (Young Guns and Wham Rap) but Club Tropicana? Careless Whisper? Last Christmas?

Ahggghhh!

Are you seriously suggesting that "Careless Whisper" is a crap song?! eek

Nup - just an annoying one...

(and I'm not saying that Young Guns and Wham Rap are "good" songs, just that I like them more than all that schmaltzy stuff).

Time for some more classics!

This song has had more of an impact on me than just about any other song.

Eurythmics- "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)"

Other Eurythmics stone cold classics from 1983:

"I Could Give You (A Mirror)"- that synth is just scorching! Plus, the lyric "I could give you a mirror to show you disappointment" is delivered with such icy ferocity!

"This City Never Sleeps"- haunted, hollow and chilling!

"Jennifer"- haunted, FULL and chilling!

From Touch:

"Here Comes the Rain Again"- Timeless classic!

"Who's That Girl?"- Elegant paranoia! The video sees Annie playing both an overtly feminine and an overtly masculine role. Check out the kiss at the end!

This song is an achingly beautiful love song by Talking Heads. Behold the glory of "Naive Melody (This Must Be the Place)":

And a killer live version!

My favorite Grace Jones song is the striking, angular, pace-changing "Living My Life"!

See, these I agree with, but then I was a bg Eurythmcs fan. On the other hand, never much excited about Madge - more of that teenybopper phenomenon - at least until Ray of Light (okay Like a Prayer was okay...)

Tom Waits released a timeless album in 1983 called Swordfishtrombones. Here are some standouts:

"A Soldier's Things"- I'm no patriot, but this song is damn moving!

"Town with No Cheer"- No video is available. It tells the tale of a near-deserted town in Australia, and he just lets the loneliness and the doldrums of depression ooze through the whole thing!

"Swordfishtrombones"- Groovy and spooky!

How about some funk?

Mtume- "Juicy Fruit"- In a word- irresistible!

Mtume- "Hips"- dancing jig

Mtume- "Green Light"- dancing jig

Indeep- "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life"- I've seen some reports say it's from '82, but I'll count it here for now. :teeth:

Go grab that first one off Ebay Soul, it's his best album as a whole IMO

Out of his 3 albums??? ..... (I don't agree)

I think I do like André's first album the most. It's very new wave. The second one sounds heavier, almost industrial at times.

I remember seeing the video a lot that year and Paul McCartney being in it was a big deal, but I didn't get into the album until a few years ago after the Pipettes began the 60s girl group revival with me.

Careless Whisper when it came out was a smash-every station black and white, was playing that joint. Now, it got played out, but when it first came out, couldn't nobody touch that ish.
