Did nobody else get depressed about what we used to call "teenybopper" music that predominated in the 80s from '83 onwards. I could never stand Duran Duran, or the Tears for Fears one with "Shout" plus all the fluff like Bros, Howard Jones etc.

I hate 80s nostalgia!!!!! mad

Back in the 80s,even the so-called "teenybopper music" was fun.Duran Duran were great! And how could you not like Howard Jones' infectious hit "Things Can Only Get Better"? It's a shame that today's kids don't get alot of fun music like that.

Today's pop music sounds like it was written by Satan himself. Not "fun", quite void of genuine emotion.

You know what's so funny, people keep talking about how huge MTV was in the 80s, truth be told MTV wasn't all that. There was so many other outlets for music videos, before I moved to Texas I lived in Oakland near Lake Merritt and they had an all black music network called Soulbeat and they played music videos and concert footage (I saw the 1999 tour on Soulbeat, I have some of that footage on tape). Plus there was Friday Night Videos, Top 10 with Casey Kasem, Hot Tracks, and another show I can't think of the name.

MTV spawned a lot of those competing shows, but you're right. There was this local show that came on Saturday nights in my town called "Miscellanea." The local weather guys hosted it right after Saturday Night Live. I remember not getting much sleep before my football games on Sunday because I stayed up too late to catch it!

I don't think anyone (except maybe my sisters) understand how I am affected daily by that beat.

I "hear" it underneath EVERYTHING, and all kinds of mental remixes.

ALL André Cymone fans wish they could have it on CD! None of his albums have ever been officially released on disc. I've seen some home-made copies on ebay, but that's it. Mine is on vinyl.

If I were to include singles, this would be right up there. I'm waiting for someone to start a 1984 thread so I can rank their first album in my top five.

I think ppl have rose-tinted memories. To me, a lot of this crap was the same kind of waste as the boy bands in the 90s and the current airwave pollution.
I did like the first two Wham! singles, though (Young Guns and Wham Rap) but Club Tropicana? Careless Whisper? Last Christmas?

I was born that year but luckily learned about songs from the 82-85 period around age 3 and kindergarten.

As much as I love Thriller and am a huge mj fan, I preferred the other artists so much more like Tears for Fears, Madonna, Prince, Phil Collins, Duran Duran etc.

And let's not forget Flashdance, with the amazing songs What a Feeling and Maniac, also from 83!

Nope, no rose-tinted memories here, just different tastes. I think "Young Guns" and "Wham Rap" are terrible (if amusingly so lol), but I love the other three. shrug
