If you want to start out with a comp, this one's pretty good  It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

I have most of Rick James' CD's and Albums, and have had my eye on this "Deluxe Edition" for some time now. But I actually purchased it tonight based on your review. I'm happy to finally have it in my collection, and am sure I won't be disappointed when I finally get to actually listen to it. It really is an understatement when I express my appreciation for The Org, and the way in which there is never an end to the great musical suggestions. Never a shortage of opinionated reviews either, .
Incidentally, while I was purchasing this CD package, I learned that Warner Bros. has deleted it's entire Prince catalog, with as of yet no planned date to reissue his catalog. Probably Old News for The Org, but I just hope that if Warner Bros. DOES reissue the Prince catalog, that they remaster it first (maybe that's already in the works). Make sure you've got your "Dirty Mind", "Lovesexy", and "Controversy" CD's now! They may be going the way of so many other great CD's and Albums from back in the day - OUT OF PRINT!!!

I actually had to buy it a second time because I lost it my junior year in college; and after searching through hell and high water, could not find it again so I bought another copy. Considering Rick James LPs contain less than 10 songs, you can get his entire collection. The music is funky. His horn section was amazing. However, if you only want to get to releases, I recommend:
1. Come and Get It! Mary Jane is the cut. I didn't know what he was talking about when it came out, but found out years later. 2. Street Songs is the best Rick James album/release. It did when the Grammy for Album of the Year. | |

Interestingly,these shows were recorded for a 2-LP "Live" album that Motown wanted to release just in time for Christmas '81.It would have been a nice way to cap off an extraordinary year for Rick,but I think he cancelled those plans.He was eager to concentrate on his next album 'Throwin Down'. | |
