So we all agree that Lionel Richie's "Dancing On The Ceiling" is one of the worst songs ever? the video is even worse
http://www.youTube.com/wa...lQB3JKZBPc I can't believe that this is the same Lionel who, along with the Commodores, gave us soulful classics like "Just To Be Close To You" and "Easy" in the 70s."Dancing On The Ceiling" sucks...truly one of the worst songs of the 80s. Anybody care to defend this crap? Who here actually likes this song?

Between that one and Say You, Say Me...its a toss up ---------------------------------
Funny and charming as usual

i think the undertones of the song are kind of sad - i think it's kind of brilliant that he used a stupid pop sounding song to write about something so serious.

"Say You Say Me" is the most tedious piece of crap he ever released.

It was the begin'n of the end when he recorded this tune..

I would say for most of Lionel Richie's solo career he recorded a lot of insipid, sickening songs. It's hard to think of a soul artist who compromised his roots the way he did -- and that's even considering Michael Jackson. THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. HOLD ON TO YOUR DRAWERS!

I like it. It's catchy. At least there's a tune unlike all the junk nowdays.

this song was cheesy as hell, at least i can tolerate "all night long"....and the video didn't help much either. [Edited 12/4/06 12:08pm] I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Shameful | |

What! Dancing on the Ceiling is a pure 80's classic. Yeah! I'm afraid of Americans. I'm afraid of the world.

I cant even really remember how that song goes or sounds like but I will say that I really do like the love song by The Commodores called 'Oh No'.
The first time that I heard this song was in the mostly forgotten about early eighties teen comedy/drama film called 'The Last American Virgin' and I guess that is why the song has alway stayed with me.

silverchild said: 'Can't Slow Down' is a SUPERB album.Yeah, most of it is pop but it is good pop.My favorite songs are "Stuck On You" and "Love Will Find A Way".Those are his two finest songs as a solo artist, imo. I still wonder why he couldn't make a decent follow-up album 'Dancing On The Ceiling' (the song and the album) is a mess.

I used to think that "Dancing on the Ceiling" (along w/ Starship's "We Built this City" of course) was the worst video of all-time, until I saw THIS one again:
Elton John's "I'm Still Standing".... http://www.youtube.com/wa...SNgW0IYQ3M Although "I'm Still Standing" is a much better song than "Dancing on the Ceiling". "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

It sure as hell isn't one of my favorites but I can listen to it. There's a lot more worse songs out there. Hell, anything on the radio these days. As for worst of the 80s, I can think of a certain someone who came out a year later and is a relative of two ladies that were already in the music business, that is MUCH worse. Andy is a four letter word.

Are there any Whitney songs that you do like? What about "Thinking About You" from her debut album? That's a cool uptempo jam with Kashif on backing vocals... just like a river of wine you intoxicate my mind I'm thinking about you (guess what I wanna do) Pick me up let's go down I'm thinking about it too

I can't stand her so much for weak influence on the artists that came after her, that if Prince and Rick James both together wrote, produced, and played some funky music for her to sing over, I think I would pitch it in the trash. so you wouldn't even like a funk album from her? What if it was really, really fast?

Even if it turned out to be the funkiest album of all time, I wouldn't be able to get into it because I would know that it was her singing on it. It's hard to forget the damage she did with her influence. However.....if she still had that same magic touch to influence people in this present day and age, back to funk and undo what she's done...I might change my mind about her.
