THE most amazing performance in all of pop & R/B
Alot of bassists have said that is almost a "Duet" between MJ & Jamerson. "You can go Fly ya Mama's Kite" (c) Prince

Did you see Standing in the Shadows of Motown? Documentary about Funk Brothers -- including James Jamerson. Dude was a the bass god.
On the soundtrack for the film, they have the instrumental track for Bernadette -- which showcases Jamerson's bass line (they start him playing solo). It's spectacular -- definitely worth seeking out. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

It's easy to see why players like Jaco Pastorius held Jamerson in such high regard.... .... Sooooo sad , man. I'm sure he just Lost the will to continue on. "You can go Fly ya Mama's Kite" (c) Prince

Yeah, "The Machine"!! I didn't realize that most stock Fender Precision basses of the 60's had the metal covers over the bridge and pickup, until I saw the pictures of Jamerson playing...guess that added to that sound, along with those flatwound strings.... ... I got a few notes in and looked at what he was playing. Clicking the X in the upper right hand corner never felt so good.
James Jamerson was a master.

I've championed James on here several times. He actually played bass on my dad's song "Standing At The Crossroads" by Eddie and Ernie. My dad was Eddie. James also played on a few other songs of my father's solo stuff. James was the o.g. He's influenced so many people. Major cats like Sir Paul to Bernard Edwards. Deeper still, James was the first musician that I heard on a record at 4 years old that impacted me. When I was always playing the Jacson Five, the thing that I dug the most about the J5, even at that age, was the music AND the musicianship. And Jamerson was at the center of that. His playing was flawless. His bass sound is such a huge part of the 69-72 J5's sound. His lines on cuts like Michael's "Got To Be There" is fucking beautiful. James always put notes "in between" notes. Nobody else was doing that. You can tell his style a mile away. His playing was so fluid. So yeah,...I'm a MAJOR fan of James. Dig, if James sat his bass down over in a corner right after he had just done a session and another bassist picked it up and started playing it, it would have a TOTALLY different sound. It was James's feel that we hear. All that is is spiritual. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Listen to J5's "one more chance" to hear him singing with Michael on the Bass!!!!...James is THE MAN!!
It's sad that he passed without getting the love from the industry and peers that he no doubt deserved....I heard a story that he was so frustrated with the state of affairs from Motown..and the fact that he had to PUT AN AD OUT TO GET WORK....that his description of past work was only...."I did all that Motown Sh#$" "I wasn't invited to shake hands with Hitler, but I wasn't invited to the White House to shake hands with the President, either" ~ Jesse Owens

My all time favorite bassist. His playing on The What's Going On album is ridiculous. That record alone displays his genius, but when you add up all of the other tracks he played on it becomes staggering.

The J5 were so bless to come into contact with such great musicians and artists at such a young age.
