I got the hots for that album while ago(since it was my 1st purchase from her along with Come To My House).
That compilation was so rushed, you know they done her ass wrong with that tracklist(sooooo much was left out ). But it was sill a nice introduction into Chaka's wall of sound. End Of A Love Affair is the reason why I love this woman, everything I love about that album boils down into that tribute tune,,,,not to mention the highly personal Love You Still(Which is about her free spirited father). Though, there's MORE to her cataloug than what she let WB mess-choose in there. Like Prince, the deeper stuff in Chaka's music are the FAR more intersting than the released ones.

"Never miss the water" is great That's what I figured out recently. It could've had a lot more hits! But it does have some nice stuff. I'm shocked they have yet to do another Chaka comilation. The audience is out there but I assume that this album is a big enough seller (and it's not like she had any hits since it...although they could include some indie stuff, if given permission, I suppose).

Harlepolis, help me out here ) btw, has anyone heard the "Mama i want to sing" soundtrack? [Edited 10/10/06 13:28pm]

All the new stuff in the compilation were apart from the "I Dare You To Love Me". Not to mention a very heartfelt tribute to Miles Davis.

"night in tunisia" is killer. Herbie Hancock on that synth solo?
And, was that George Benson on the guitar solo for "the end of a love affair?" Mad respect.

I was actually in the process of creating a thread trashing this piece of shit compilation. Whoever crafted it left off major classics. I guess that's why it's titled volume 1 but there was never any other volumes!!!
I got reacquainted with this album in the last year: Circles has become intensely personal to me and I'm amazed at the hugeness that this album has become to me 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

i remember chaka indicating that a vol 2 was always part of the planning and thats why so many hits were left of the first volume. Space for sale...

Well shit, how many damn years ago was this already? They should have come out swingin on the first set. I was satisfied with this when it first came out but I always noticed the blatant disrespect to her Rufus catalogue. So much missing from those years..... 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Well child, you ought to KNOW damn better than to believe that greasy ol' heffa. I love Chaka probably more than ya'll do but the bitch is just full of empty promises. So far, we were promised with a: 1) Jazz album(Ok, we finally got it). 2) Funk album(Still waiting!) 3) Collaporation album(Still waiting!) 3) Rock album(Still waiting!) 4) Exlucive boxet which includes the Rufus years(Sill FUCKIN' waiting). And for lately, her remakes album with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. Probably I shouldn't be hard on the sista, I spoke to her sister(Tammy) in a backstage concert she did in Europe and said that you won't believe the amount of songs she got stacked in her vault(some of them are jam sessions and instrumentals which she contributed in). Thing is, there's nobody to distrubte them. But I'm MADDER than her for all this madness.

I just realized that I'd never listened to this disc all the way through, that I'd just listened to my faves...
I know that's the equivalent of someone buying that "Best of Prince" disc and raving about "Raspberet Berry..."

I definitely love Epiphany: Vol.1 really much. It showcases Chaka's versatility and range as a solo artist near-perfectly. I love the new tracks that were added at the end because her voice just raises the hair on your arm and the songs are fonky too. But nothing can top her work with Rufus to me. Everything they did from 1974 to 1978 was solid to me. Ask Rufus and Rufusized are two of my favorite R&B/Funk albums, IMHO and those 2 are also their best albums.
I'm trying to get into this record now, though: [Edited 10/10/06 15:27pm] Check me out and add me on:
